Unreal. You sure have the green thumb.

Lawrenceville, GA(Zone 7a)

Do you tie the rope to the trunk of the tomato plant? If yes, does that not grow up?

Nauvoo, AL(Zone 7a)

it grows up some yes but not alot---and yes you tie twine to low part of tomato trunk. You tie it losely cause the vine will get fatter.

Cricket... It is hard to think about it now but wait throught the summer and try again in the fall when things are not growing.... We (Corinn) worked hard for both of ours and went through the same thing a couple of times before things got rolling.

You are doing mittleider right? So are you feeding the weekly mixture?

Glad you are feeling better. I had been wondering what was happening with you & your tomatoes.
Wish you well.
Bernie

Nauvoo, AL(Zone 7a)

I got a late start on my Fall tomato plants---They are 4 weeks behind what they should of been.

I grew Trust tomatoes for the Fall crop cause they produce better with less sunlight than the big beef.

I was disappointed with how long it took the big beef to produce their first tomatoes but was very pleased with the tomatoes once they finally got here which took a total of 4 months. That was a long wait. The Trust tomatoes have produced alot sooner than the Big Beef. I dont know how the Trust tomatoes taste yet and cant wait to find out. The Trust tomatoes are a Greenhouse beefsteak tomato that should be smooth and produce 7oz tomatoes. Looks like I will have vine ripe tomatoes a week before Thanksgiving. I sure did get a late start.

I will still grow the Big Beef next spring but will grow Trust early spring first so i can have tomatoes earlier.

What i hate most of all is the poly on the greenhouse ---taking it off during the summer. Its a drag. There is just no economical way to cool the greenhouse and save money at the same time. Its a shame that it takes money to save money, takes money to make money. The cheepest is to just Use Huge Attic type Fans for Greenhouses. I dont have any yet but will next year.

Why a spring crop & a fall crop ? Heres a picture of mine taken Oct 6. I have been picking these tomatoes 3X a week since June 11.
I think they would go until next year if I don't let them freeze.
I leave my plastic on year around. This year it will come off & put new on. I think this has been on at least 7 years.
I have 2 - 32" fans to ventilate the house. I lost 2 clusters of fruit because of heat, but we had a hotter than normal July-August. When its 98º outside it's probably to hot to pollinate.
A friend that raises hydroponic tomatoes, cools his with a water evaperator on one end of the house. It looks like a big radiator with cold water running through it. All incoming air has to go through it. Does a good job.
Good -luck,
Bernie

I did a Fall crop because my Spring crop had a disease. I dont know if it was Late blight or if someone went in the greenhouse with a cigarette. They were BAD UGLY and tomatoes had those brown circle spots on them. whats that???????? It wasnt blossom end rot. these spots were randomly on the main tomato not the blossom end. So i chopped them down.

Thought about the Radiator coolant system thingy but that thing cost some money.
It gets so hot so early here that in May the greenhouse was reaching 110. But that was with no Fans. I had to take the plastic off.

End of May Pic
