DH's coworker

Decatur, IN(Zone 5a)

Our youngest son Matthew was born on July 8th, 2002. I was surprised that one of his coworkers sent him a present. DH has been her supervisor on & off because of shift changes. After talking a bit w/ DH, he told me this lady's birthday was also on July 8th so she was very excited with the news. Then at Christmas she sent him a nice gift & a little something for our other two kids. So far, she's sent him things for Valentines, Easter, Christmas & both his birthdays. For Christmas & birthdays she doesn't send cheapy gifts....atleast $10 a piece for each child. Just the other day, DH came home with a box of chocolates for the other two & a box of chocolates for Matthew along with a card & a small Russ mouse in a box. I've also learned that she does have three grown kids but doesnot have any grandkids. I know that my DH is well liked by the employees & have thought that she sends Matthew gifts because she formed a special attachment to him due to being born on her birthday (she calls him her birthday buddy) and perhaps because she is longing for her own grandkids. In the past, I've made my own homemade cards with a picture of Matthew opening his gift to give her thanks. I've also sent her birthday cards in Matthews name & a little gift like a nice bookmark & last Christmas I made her a homemade personalized ornament. I would like to do something nice for her for Valentine's Day, can anyone make a good suggestion? I don't have much money so I'd appreciate your ideas? The only thing I thought of was perhaps a small scrapbook with pictures of Matthew as he's grown? What ya think?? TIA,

I think that's a great idea.

How lovely. Both of you.

She doesn't need a gift or anything fancy in return. She needs to know how touched you are by her attention to your children and you are showing her that in spades. Simple pictures, crafts, a photo here or there - you really don't need to go beyond that because I'm sure what you're doing already shows her that you appreciate her.

A cute one for Valentine's is to wrap a small box (empty) and attach that rhyme...
This is a very special gift
That you can never see.
The reason it's so special
Is, it's just for you from me.
Whenever you are lonely
Or even feeling blue,
You only have to hold this gift
And know I think of you.
You never can unwrap it
Please leave the ribbon tied,
Just hold the box next to your heart
It's filled with love inside.

It would also be very sweet to have your kids invite her over for a "Grandfriends Day" - provided that she is of an age where'd she like that, lol!
