UNBELIEVABLY slow response at DG

Vicksburg, MS(Zone 8a)

DG is taking 30+ seconds to load each and every page today, rendering the site useless for me. Anyone else experiencing these delays?

Northern California, CA

Time of day

It's on and off

Patience.....

Check some of the threads here in the Dave's Garden Forum concerning the downtime due to a back-hoe and the new server being asked to carry a very heavy load.

Try again later.

Copperbaron, in this thread: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/482542/#new gardenwife suggested clearing your temporary files. Take a look at the thread and see her links.

Minneapolis, MN(Zone 5a)

I've had the same problem (yesterday and the day before) but not today. I was trying to update some info in the plant files and I gave up because the response time was so slow. I clear my temp. Internet files every couple of days so I know that's not the problem. I also have a broadband connection and I have no problems with other sites being slow. It just must be too much traffic on the DG web site. (all of us poor souls without a life that spend all of our free time on the DG site (o:)
Thanks,
Mike

None of the pictures are loading not even the logo at the top. I have cleared my cookies and temp internet files. Speed is not an issue on my side as I am on a T1 line at work.

Any suggestions to fix or explain this would be appreciated.

The site is as snappy as I could ever expect. Not a bit of sluggishness.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I think it's still server-side. Just a tremendous amount of traffic hitting the site at certain times. I'm on cable - usually fast, but from time to time I'll experience timeouts and delays. (Usually a good hint to go get some housework or laundry done ;o)

"am on a T1 line at work"

What? Hitting DG from work?!? It is okay we will not tell (as long as you don't tell on me either!!)

Is everybody else having problems with images as well? I don't see it mentioned much cannot see any of the posted images. It is very annoying to read follow messages saying "ohhh...your gardens are so beautiful" and to not be able to see the posted image. All I see is an empty rectangle with the text "Thumbnails of..." or "Photo of..."

Bear with us. It's been a somewhat rocky path back to normalcy ;o)

All quiet on the Western front.
Purring purrfectly.

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

I'm having no problems at all. DSL, though, don't know if that makes a difference.

About the images...they seemed to work fine last night from home, but are still not working here at the office. I think it is a firewall issue. When I look at the properties for an image, I see that they are using port 8080. My guess is that since this is a "non-standard" port it is being blocked

Here is an image that I cannot see:

If I change the port to 80 (remove :8080) I see the image correctly:

Is there a reason that port 8080 is being used for images?

- Brent

Yes, I have different software serving the images, and therefore of course it would need a different port.

Port 8080 is a pretty standard secondary web port that most firewalls should allow. When we get the new server finished, however, we'll be back on port 80 again.

Thanks Dave! I think that my work has us locked down to pretty much just ports 80 and probably 20 and 21. I know that SMTP and POP3 are blocked. I am not sure how much attention a change request "so that I can see garden pictures" would get.

- Brent

Ha! I guess not much! :) Well, hopefully we'll get this changed soon. In the meantime, I don't have a choice but to do this. Serving images with my php-enabled Apache on port 80 just wasn't working on this poor little Opteron server with only 2 gigs of RAM. :)

Here all this time I thought it was my system. I am patient and will wait.

Hope Valley, RI(Zone 6b)

I will wait patiently also

Couldn't access all the previous threads on this matter as the response time was too slow, so I was unaware of all the problems. :^) Things are back to normal.

Hope Valley, RI(Zone 6b)

Yeah --- I can see pictures again. Boy have I missed all the pretty pictures.

Sterling, VA(Zone 6b)

Pictures are working for me also. Thanks for the work Dave and gang!
