spklatt, yes, this confusion of "India" and "Indiana" was there earlier, but now my country is spelt out in full, whereas all the American States are shown in two letters.

Dinu, I think the confusion was due to the fact that some people in North America use the old term "Indian" for aboriginal North Americans. This term originated when explorers from Europe first reached the eastern coast of North America, and thought they had reached India (not knowing how large the earth was) - and they started calling the inhabitants "Indians". For centuries afterwards, North Americans of European descent kept using that name for their aboriginal fellow citizens, but this is steadily changing. Here's the thread in DG where it started:
