If you want some stuff from me just email me but if crimsontsavo has everything you want
than I guess just trading with one person would be easier. If you still want stuff from me just email me and let me know what you want.
Thanks

Hi everyone, in a few months I will be infested with both water hyacinth and water lettuce; I just cleaned out the ponds a few weeks ago and got rid of tons of both, but they were not anything that anyone would want to trade, considering they were all frostbitten.

I'll either post to this thread again or start a new one as soon as I have some to get rid of... believe me there will be plenty. The entire surface of both of my small (one is 5x7, the other is 6x8) ponds were covered with lettuce and hyacinth since I stopped clearing them out in September, and they will again be covered as soon as the weather warms up.

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Will post again when the plants start greening up for the spring. Sooner if I find more stuff in the ponds. :-)

Hixson, TN(Zone 7a)

Here is a pic of horse tail for all you guys interested in it.

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

white marliac albia water lilies
black gamecock iris
dwarf cattails
maybe a few other things

I'm interested in diff waterlilies: some are listed on my trade page.

charlotte

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Dwarf Cattails!

Ohh if you have enough and my waterlilies grow- I'd love to trade for a small bit of your DC's.

Are you looking for named waterlilies or just any kind of waterlilies?

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Charlotte,

I'm sure you will have plenty of takers, oops traders (lol lol) who have signed up on this thread.

Judy

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

OKay guys, I have a couple of Lotus "Chawn Basu" tuber to trade. I'm looking for other small lotus tubers, Hardy lilies on my "want" list here at Daves or tropical lilies that I dont have. If its lilies, I may want 2 small ones for one lotus tuber. I still cant believe what I paid for my tuber last Spring. Talk about obsession :)

If anyone is interested please let me if you have any of my wants. I really dont want to hurt anyones feelings but I will take the one who offers what I want most. Not necessarily the first one to post.

thanks a bunch.
charlotte

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

That's not bad Charolette- that's one thing trading is about, lol. You trade a prized plant for another prized one.

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

Yes, I hate to be that way but I'd much rather trade than sell. But I do want to add lilies or lotus that I dont have to my pond.

Crimsontsavo, let me know when you know what kind of lilies you have. In your zone do they go dormant ?

I can probably dig you out a big of Dward Cattails. Cant believe they charge $14 for those things. They spread pretty quickly. I'll be glad to share if you have something I need.
thanks

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi Charlotte,

I am going to look up your lotus to see what it looks like. I would probably love to have it. LOL All I have is lutea, the native type yellow one. I won't know which water lilies I have until they bloom. My huge koi likes to knock over pots, hence the names float out. :( Any chance you would want land plants?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

THAT is pretty! Tell me you didn't pay THAT for it?? LOL
http://www.mastergardening.com/wat-1049.html

Can I send you an 11 year old? She MIGHT be worth $85. hahahaha

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

No thank God...thats a 2 pack. I think I paid about $26-$30 last year and thats too much for me ! I'm kinda "po".

Thanks for the offer of the child..but dont they cost alot to keep up on down the line :)

I do want water lilies because they are so hard to come by around here.
I'll send you an PM.

charlotte

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

LOL Hey, I'd have to think twice at $30. I am with you on the 'po' thing and they are picky and temperamental. I live by a big fish hatchery that also sells water plants. They co-op'd lotus for me 2 years ago for around $10 (I think) once we hit a certain number but only on the pink (hindu) and yellow (lutea) ones. I just got their 2005 catalogue and I think the named ones are like $40!

If we don't work something out or you get a great offer, go for it! I totally understand. :)

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

A lotus or tropical lily coop. Oh that would be too wonderful to contemplate. I really dont understand why some of the water plants are so expensive. Once established they seem to reproduce quite well.

I'll be glad when mine get to the point where I can share and not feel I need to get something back. Say when I become a plant guru like Wanda :)

I'd like to sell enough plants to get a small greenhouse someday. Thats my dream.
charlotte

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I have considered doing a lotus co-op again but I am not sure how well the plants did. And even $10 is a lot of money for one single tuber. I should post and see how many had plants that did well. Some people did write to let me know theirs died. I think the weirdest thing was how the tubers varied in size! Some were the size of a banana or sweet potato while others were about the size of a jalapeno pepper. I questioned the person that got them for me and he said often the smaller ones perform better than the larger ones. Hmmmm. I had one make it. I believe it has several babies on it. I saw some floating. LOL

They had to be pulled from the ponds at the fishery in early March I think, and sent out right away. It has to be done while they are cold and dormant. People in the colder states had issues with what to do with them that time of year. I have a feeling there were less happy people than unhappy people so that is why I haven't started another co-op.

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Indigoez's water hyacinth and water lettuce are more my speed since I have all sorts of critters who go for a swim if I turn my back.

Hixson, TN(Zone 7a)

Badseed to get a lotus tuber around here for $10.00 is impossible! The cheapest you can get one of those babies around here is 26.00 but I couldn't have one unless it was a miniature(if There is any such thing?) because my ponds are little but boy I do love Lotus! They are so beautiful and I love the seed pods too! I saw a show on HGTV about a National water garden that planted a thousand year old seed and now they have a lake full of that lotus.
It was like three years ago and I can not remember the name of the garden but I was so impressed that a 1000 year old seed could still be able to produce a plant.I thought that was so cool.

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

The Chawan Basu is a small lotus. I think some call it a "bowl" lotus because it requires less space than some others. I bought 2 tubers last year for about $60 total. Lordy, I hated doing that but there was no other way, thank goodness they didnt die !

Neither of my lotus are in the pond (so dont let a small pond stop you). From the research I did, they need alot of nutrients to bloom well and all those nutrients can green up the pond too much.
My Mrs. Perry D. Slocum was put into the bottom half of a 50 gall plastic barrel and placed near the pond. The Chawan Basu, I put in one of those Rubbermaid containers. This is what I moved to another container yesterday, hence the extra tubers.

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

I have a wild waterlily that keeps it's leaves year round. It's white.
If you want some let me know.

You can pot your lotus in anything that will hold water (or so I have read).
I plan on using some barrels we cut in half. Lots of good dirt and keep em` wet.

I have to re-pot a pink tropical lily soon. I promised one corm to someone else- If there's enough I can set one aside for you too.

Might just be wishful thinking but- I THINK I see tiny sprouts on some of those seeds I planted!
It will probably be a couple years before the lilies from seed bloom- at least from what I read anyway.

Gimmie about a week or so and I'll post back about them.

I don't need a large clump of the cattails- even one tiny rooted piece would be fine by me! They cost way too much in the stores, LOL. If you wanna trade your stuff for named lilies instead I totally understand. :-D

If I am repeating myself, I'm sorry- Were still pretty sick around here. :-

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

I do want named lilies - the unnamed ones are difficult to trade with others.

I might be interested in your tropical pink if you have enough. Just let me know.
:)

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

crimsontsalvo, I have small cattails if you are willing to wait until around the middle of April?

They really multiply.

Maxine

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

You can grow a Lotus in a large bowl or pot. When I was at Calalily's old place in TN, she had them growing in huge pots. They were gorgeous!!

I have mine in one of those huge tubs with the rope handles. I then set that in the pond on top of two cinder block. Frogs have taken up residence in the tub and are quite happy there. They do like to come out and hide in my plants and leap out at the best times to terrify me. LOL

Hixson, TN(Zone 7a)

Oh I love frogs

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

LOL BS! Odd you should mention that- I was looking in my pond today- had my face right down in it- spotted that frog and almost peed on myself! It's a bullfrog. hehe

Maxine, that'd be awesome. What do you want in trade?

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

What do you have in water lilies? Don't have to be named ones, as I can't seem to keep the plant tags in them in the water.

Maxine
