So now we do a "baby watch" with Brenda's Brug. What kind is it Brenda?
Only because you twisted my arm
It was supposed to be a white sanguinea? but now is supposed to be Charles Grimaldi. Time will tell. Maybe.
I will be watching in interest, Brenda, 'cause I have a CG that should blossom this summer.
Now that I'm an expert on buds, LOL, I can tell you that it won't be long at all....1 month. And a mystery ending to boot. Sounds good Brenda.
And this, is why we are addicted to brugs. They are wonderful, scentful, intriguing, beautiful, multicoloured, multishaped, and able to make you pull your hair out, as well as give you and others wonderful moments.
Comgratulations Sandy, this excitment of watching a new brug flower, happens to me with any new brug, and I'im sure will happen with each flower this year as well.
Spend some time sitting under your beautiful baby.
I followed your advice Linda. I went and spent some time with my flower. It's amazing how it only has a scent at night. The scent is so strong that I wondered why I'd never noticed a scent when I saw them at Jeanne's. Now of course I realize that it was just the wrong time of day.
The flower's starting to go pink you guys. Here are a couple of pictures.
Sandy, WOW that is some great flower. Isn't amazing how quick they turn colour when they bloom? And I can just imagine the scent, mmmmmmmmmmmm yum.
now I'm kicking myself for not going all the way up to your place Sandy. We were inComox the last day and a half, but spent very busy at my folks place, and we didn't have the time to get to you, otherwise I would've called and come a visiting. We got home this evening, and whiskers had about 8 new blooms her and the whole deck/GH smells wonderful.

It's amazing when I compare the pictures from this morning with these ones. It'll also be amazing if this flower survives me. The 'lovely' thing is hanging right out there in the middle of the path through the solarium and I keep bashing my head on it.
Oh you "Island Girls" are just making us green with envy, with all your Brug Blooms. Sandy, that Pink is just stunning. You know, I have never smelled them before. So Linda I hope you have some for me to smell when we are there in April.
I am so excited, I ordered two Brugs from Liz tonight. An Orange Versi and one of Monika's Hybrid Brugs that Liz grew from seed, a Peach Chiffon. I won't get them until May, but as Liz said, they will have been out for a month already before I receive them and will be hardened off and ready to go in the ground. I can't wait. Woo Hoo!!! :Donna
edited to say...Be gentle, Sandy!

Woo Hoo!!! is right Donna. I just went and looked those up. Peach Chiffon is a double. Lucky you....I'm jealous.:-)
It's a beauty Sandy.....I'll repeat myself and say I'd *love* an above the Y baby!
Donna you just ordered the one I'm going to order.......Liz if you are watching this that is one of the ones I want from your company. Pretty in Pink is the other. If you don't respond here I'll be emailing you privately. I'm pretty sure Dad will be requesting I bring back one or two for him as well. ;)
Okay Pam, it's all yours. Don't worry....one of the first things I learned is that the cuttings need to be above the Y.
Lucky you too Pam. I love the look of Rosamond. That's the one I would choose.
LOL.....I've tried the below the Y cuttings here but unfortunately in my zone it takes them forever to grow. :( Given that some of our summers amount to only two months/sometimes three 1/2 (tho last year I think was 6 days) I've decided to forgo the beauty of a tree and enjoy much earlier blooms. Hopefully if all goes well I'll be able to send you a cutting of one in the fall. :)
edited to say since you found a Sago I think a fall trade would be better than a RoundUp one.......that way I *might* have something you don't have. ;)

The above the Y cuttings turn into trees don't they? I know they bloom faster. Hmmm...I think I need to get the book out. Okay, I'll have my fingers crossed for you. Oh ya, and I'll cross my fingers that you get more than a 6 day summer this year too.
The above Y cuttings are like a bush and will bloom almost immediately....given a reasonable bit of heat. The below the *major* Y cutting will give you a tree whose stalk could be somewhat short (usually 18" or so) or very long (8' long before the Y comes)...after the tree brug does the major Y then the small y's come and with them the blooms.
You can cut off those side shoots though, can't you, then you would have a tree as opposed to a bush. Some of my cuttings are putting up new main stems that don't look like they're going to stop growing for awhile. Some of them have smaller side shoots but I just assumed I could cut those off if I wanted a standard. The only cuttings that look like they're going to want to bloom soon are the ones that came from the branch tips. They are variegated ones. I wonder if that would make a difference.
Sorry Linda, I missed your posting somehow. I keep doing that. I find it happens when I'm typing away at the same time as someone else. The other person posts their message before I get mine on there and I miss it because I don't read back up the postings again. I'm not very fast at typing up my messages and I'll start one then go off and watch TV for awhile or eat or something, then come back and finish it. By then my message doesn't really fit in with what has come in between. LOL
Your parents live in Comox eh? It's nice down there. So you were in my neck of the woods. Well, you certainly would have been welcome to come and visit. I'm afraid the flower wasn't as nice earlier today as it is now though. It was pale and didn't have any scent. It's pinker than it looks in those last pictures. Maybe the pink will show up more tomorrow in the light. Tonight's pictures make it look kind of peach coloured.
My one little (okay, well big, LOL) bloom is nothing compared to yours though. 8 blooms on Whiskers....Wow!! Every time I go to Jeanne's I have a good look at Whiskers. I just love the look of that one with the long tendrils and the neat serrated leaves. And yes, the scent from 8 blooms at night must be wonderful. I'm going to have more than one flower out at the same time next time mine blooms. I have about 8 (LOL) buds that are started to grow a bit. I would say in about 6 weeks. I can hardly wait.
I'll let Liz or Brugcrazy answer that.......I think the end result would still be different (ie. how the tree fills out).
I really like it! Ü It has *very good* color for this time of year!
I agree, just a gorgeous peachy pink color!!!
Good, it'll be interesting to see if it changes colour any more. I don't have any previous experience to compare it with.
It's lovely, no matter what the colour.
My rosamond that just finished blooming, is nice and pink in the summer, but was more the colour that you have now, because it's "winter" here.
That's interesting Linda. I wonder if Rosamond and Kyle's Pink would be the same colour in the summer. I love the colour and shape of Rosamond but I really like the shape of this Kyle's Pink so I don't think I need a Rosamond now.
I htink I too prefer the shape of Kyles Pink. Rosamond is more nodding then hanging, and I prefer the hanging style. One of these days, when I figure out how much room I have for brugs, I'll have to get one of them.
Linda
I'll be able to give you a piece in the fall if you want. I think that next year I'm going to have to trim it back and overwinter it in the garage in a dormant state.
"Nodding"???
Cool. I think I like nodding. You don't have to bend over so far to look underneath! ;-)
I see the difference clearer now. Are certain kinds of Brugs nodders and others are straight down? For example are Frosty Pinks always nodders? Nice blooms BTW.
How's the baby Brug today, Sandy? How long do the Blooms last?
Very pretty thanks for posting them Linda. Ü
Wow, you've got some beauties there Linda. I love the tendrils on Whiskers. What's the difference between a common double white and a not so common double white? I thought all doubles were pretty special. LOL I don't have any kind of doubles so I guess they'd all be special to me anyway.
Donna, I think my flower has probably changed colour as much as it's going to because I don't really see any difference even in the daylight.
Now isn't that just the prettiest thing! I love that color Sandy. They look so perfect that sometimes it's like the are ceramic or something. Gorgeous!
Sandy, that is one beautiful flower. Enjoy while you can, and i hope you get more soon.
Hey Sandy! did you see on the Brug & Friends forum where kareoke had a 7" Brug produce a huge bud? Incredible. Goes to show, you can never tell or know it all, huh?
