Only because you twisted my arm

Most don't have problems with them but those that are bothered by strong scents find it overwhelming inside. I'm one of those people.......but I'm totally in love with it outside.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

I finally picked up my heating mat fm Lee Valley today, so it's show time for my brug seeds from Jeanne. I'm so glad to see these pics - it's great incentive! :-)

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

It'll be interesting to see how much scent there is with one bloom. I hope it'll be all right.

Great Shannon. Have you got them soaking? I hope you have good luck with them. Anything happening with yours yet Donna? It should be any day now.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Yep, just started them soaking tonight. I have some tropical plant potting soil to put them in - hopefully that'll do the trick. I'm going to take one more look at the tips & links that Donna posted in the contest forum, just to make sure I'm following all the rules :-)

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Actually, I was checking them out today and accident, knocked one and found that it had a root already, but nothing showing on top yet. Had to take the plastic off for the afternoon as it was pretty wet. Don't want them to get mouldy!!!

I got the dope from Shirley (Brugie) regarding that photo. I was curious about the size too. Love that shorter size. Here's what she had to say:

Quoting:
I gave that one away last year. No good reason other than I needed to make room for others. It is Versi. Orange and I believe Mailman might be who I gave it to. You would love it. Mine in 5 years never got over 4 ft. tall. Smells out of this world. I'm sure if you write to him that he would probably be willing to snip a piece of her for you for postage.

I wrote back to say, I would love to have one like that, but that I doubted Mailman could get a cutting accross the border to me. Sigh...too bad

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

I started some of mine in tropical soil and it was fine. Just make sure the soil stays moist...not too wet, not too dry. I tried some of mine on my heat mat but they dried out a bit too fast. If you keep an eye on them they should be just fine.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

I have mine on a heating pad, and I think that is why it gets so humid in there sometimes. Our basement is getting warmer now that the temperature outside is staying above 0 all the time now.

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

Thanks for finding out what brug that is Donna. I thought I had a Versicolor. In October I did a trade with someone from Manitoba. It was through GW before I joined DG. Anyhow, I got a cutting of Charles Grimaldi and one of Versicolor Apricot. I started to wonder about them though, when I noticed the leaves they grew seemed to be identical. They have a serated edge. I asked Jeanne if they should both have serated leaves and she said only the CG should. I thought it would be interesting to see what kind of blooms they both have but I don't think I'm going to get that chance. I just potted them into soil a couple of days ago because they were doing nothing. The Versicolor had some small roots and I think it'll be all right but the CG was starting to go mushy on the bottom. I cut some off but I think it's too late. I think I'm going to lose it. I'm really kicking myself for not potting them sooner. Anyhow, my Versicolor is probably a CG which is okay.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

That is interesting, Sandy. Shirley did mention to me after I talked by email about it and she says the Versi won't come true from seed. I wonder if the person you traded with on GW didn't know that and grew the one she traded to you from seed?

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

I don't know Donna, there could be other reasons. She may have got the cuttings mixed up or got the Versicolor from somebody who thought it was a Versicolor. I guess that's a risk you take when you trade with someone you don't know.

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

Maybe it's decided not to open any more.

It will come! ;)

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Hmmm.

So Friday night at 9 PM didn't do it, now I'd say Monday at 9 PM.

I've been on the road, and am home only for a few hours before away again till Tuesday AM. I'll be back on line then.

Linda

I'ts a got a lot fatter. Just plumping up for the debut.

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

Yes, it's getting quite fat.

I had to tie down another branch. You notice all my strings in the background. The plant just fit in the solarium when I brought it home. Now some of the branches have grown a foot or more and the tips are growing up against the ceiling. The tips of the leaves on some of the orchids that touched the plastic went black when the temperatures were freezing last year. So I'm trying to keep all the plants from growing against the plastic.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

OK, I'm gonna give up guessing when that baby will open. Probably that's why it won't. Besides, I'd hate to make Sandy give it to me for winning the contest anyway. LOL

Guess what? Liz has Orange Versi. Also has White and Peach Versi as well. I am gonna buy one from her. Man it's great to have Liz right here in Canada selling such quality Brugs. We're lucky.

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

Ya, I wonder what the shipping on an 8' tree would be. LOL

Lucky you. It would be nice to have a Versicolor. The blooms are huge. I think they need more heat than the others. Yes, we are lucky to have one of the best places anywhere to buy brugs.

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

It's getting fatter all the way down now. I think it's getting pretty close.

You staying up tonight?

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Oh, she's almost there....

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

No, with my luck it'll stay just as it is for another day or two. LOL

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

either tonight or tomorrow night, don't blink!

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

I think you're right Aunties. It's not quite open but already the scent is wonderful.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

This is almost as bad as wondering when the NHL strike will end! Except, I actually care about our brug bloom....lol

Up & at 'em Sandy, we want a report! What - it's only 7:00 am in Vancouver you say ?! That's no excuse! :-D

Ü Lookin' great there girl......now for the color to develop! Won't be as colorful in the winter but gorgeous none the less!

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

From another side. I guess now we have to see how it changes colour. After all, it's supposed to be pink.

Thumbnail by nightowl2

Well I think it's gorgeous the way it is. Even if it never turns pink.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8a)

Congrats, mommy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

I'm an aunt, I'm an aunt!! :-) Beautiful pics, Sandy - thanks.

Aw shucks, you're welcome. Now what are we going to do to keep ourselves occupied. LOL

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Now we are going to watch baby Brug change colors!

I can soon start giving you pictures of mine, but it could be a long wait. I only think they're buds. I better take some pics cause I'm too vision impaired to be sure. They look like pencil leds coming out of the Vs in the branches. Would that be them?

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

you bet that would be them.
i noticed last year that it took longer for the color change indoors (which could correspond to less daylight hours and less intense daylight) than they took outdoors
also pam is right the color was more intense; but the blossoms lasted longer indoors
