Only because you twisted my arm

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

Okay, here's the flower today. It's so kind of you guys to indulge me. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one to get so obsessed by my first bud Pam.

For those of you new to brugs. Note how all flowers start to emerge from the calyx a shiny green. Depending on the variety, it will turn either white next then change colour as it ages.

We're not indulging you. We're gardeners. That's what we're here for. Nobody else understands our obsessions about plants. For me this is the best part, to share your excitement.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Sandy, you are not alone in your intense watching of a new bud. I remember when I had my first bloom coming, I was out there allthe time, and took hundreds, yes hundreds of pictures. Thankfully with the digital camera I could erase a whole slew of them. This past year I had my first plooms form seeds that I germinated, now that was a real exciting time. Keep us updated.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Very exciting, Sandy. Thanls for sharing your wonderful event with us. I am living vicariously through you in all of this. :Donna

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

It looks gorgeous Sandy!! Ü Looking forward to seeing it's continued development.

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

Thanks!!! I will post a picture every day Donna. I'm really interested to see how it will change colours.

That must have been really cool to get blooms from your own seeds Linda. Did you get lots of colour variations from the seeds? How many of them did you grow out? My own seed pods some day.....I can hardly wait.

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

Okay, here's the photo for today. Like my dad said, it's grown an inch since yesterday.

Brugmania strikes again.....Okay you guys, you're sucking me in!!!! I need some answers:

1. What's the difference between growing datura or growing brugs?
2. Can I grow brugs in the house permanently? My datura get pretty sprawly but I keep cutting them back. They also attract white flies and spider mites, and I've been thinking of getting rid of them completely.

Have no idea where I'd put another large plant. DH is totally unreasonable--thinks the windows are for looking out! Imagine. So he won't let me put anything in his office window. But where there's a will...

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

It's frustrating I know to watch it slowly develop,it's such a large bloom..........but when it opens Ü

Brugs can be grown inside and will bloom......but like datura they are a bug magnet (esp. whitefly where it is dry).

Here's today's photo.

Should we do a baby pool on the hour it opens? Won't be long now.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Looking good Ü What was it's name again?

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

Sorry, I quickly posted the pictures this morning then went out for most of the day. It's a Kyle's Pink. I can't take any credit for growing the plant. It's one of Jeanne's babies that she didn't have room to bring in for the winter. I can, however, take full credit for this particular bloom, since you know where it would be if it hadn't been for me.

Baby pool eh? LOL Somebody else is going to have to run that contest.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Looking real good, Sandy. Any day now, da, da, da, da...

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

I vote for midnight Friday.

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

i vote for as soon as you've gone to bed and quit watching or had to make a quick trip out in the evening and quit watching ... do you get my drift - they KNOW!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

So go out for dinner as soon as you can tonight, Sandy! :-)

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

LOL You guys are so funny!! Here's today's picture. I'm off to work for half a day. I get the impression they like to open in the evening so I guess I don't have to worry while I'm at work.

Oohhh....almost! I'd love to see one of these opening in a film of time-lapse photography. Your pictures are great, Sandy - thanks & keep 'em coming!

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

Yes, I agree Shannon, it would be cool to see it on a time-lapse film. I swear it grew 1/4 inch in a couple of hours.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Could be an exciting weekend for all of us "Aunties"! :D

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Any action yet, Sandy ???? :-)

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

LOL No, you're not Aunties yet but I think it's getting close. It's getting fatter. It's 13" long from the top of the calyx. Some of the other buds that have stayed really tiny are starting to grow now too. I think maybe this was the test bud.

It's like watching water come to the boil! ;)

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

OK, next guess...6:00am Sunday morning!

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Look at this gorgeous Brug. Doesn't it make you want to cozy up in one of those chairs and just breathe in the scent? I copied it from the Brug & Friends forum. It's Brugie's photo and she says it's an old one. I just had to copy it here so we could all ogle it. Just think Sandy, this is what yours could look like one day!

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Poop, it won't enlarge. Check it out in the other forum. It's worth it to get a close-up view.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Let's try it this way...

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

There, that's better...

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

LOL

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

Wow!! You're right Donna, it's absolutely gorgeous. It isn't really very tall though, is it? I wonder what kind it is? Can you imagine that many blooms? The scent would probably knock you over. Just wait eh, Donna...someday that's going to be us posting our own pictures of plants with loads of blooms. Here I am waiting on one lowly one. Oh well, you have to start somewhere.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I still think two more days......better a pessimist, if it opens sooner it's a wonderful surprise!

Do you have allergies Sandy?

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

13" long - ! Holy cow. Can't wait til it opens.

Thanks for that gorgeous photo, Donna! It's one of the few I've seen that shows the whole plant, which helps me know what I'm getting into. "Poop"?...tsk tsk...such language. ;-)

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

No why? Is there something about these things I don't know about? LOL

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

LOL...could have been worse, Shannon!
