Dave on NPR?

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Hi Dave, A friend came to visit yesterday and said "What's the name of that gardening website you are on all the time? Is it Dave's Garden?" I said, "Yes, of course, and you ask because?" She said she was listening to NPR a few days ago and a guy named Dave Whitinger was on there talking about Dave's Garden. "I thought it sounded familiar," she said.

Of course, that's all I talk about is DG. My family doesn't even ask what I'm doing anymore, they know where I am.

I was excited that it hit our airwaves in Louisville, Kentucky :) Keep up the good work Dave.

:) Kathy

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh, neat! I looked at NPR.org, but can't find a link about a broadcast just yet. There is a link to DG on NPR, however - check this out. http://www.npr.org/programs/talkingplants/why/links.html How cool is that? :)

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

Ketzel Levine always reminds me of our own BloomsWithAView... *smile*... and I'm an NPR groupie from the 80s.

Yes, the interview was recorded a couple weeks ago and it played in Louisville last Saturday and again on Sunday.

The archive is somewhere online - I'll try to find it.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

I just listened to it. The interview was great. Dave you did a good job but then we knew you would.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Peggy, going to post a link?

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Kimberley here ya go, I tried putting the link to the interview that didn't work in preview so lets try this http://www.wfpl.org/homegrown.htm at the top go to archived programs. When you get there click on the Jan 8th program date , it doesn't have anything listed there as to what that interview was.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Got it. I'm listening to it now, thanks!

GREAT interview! Always a pleasure to listen to you Dave...What an interesting young man you are. Can't WAIT for that zip code thingy you have in the works. :-)

Crossville, TN

Well....wasn't that nice? Our Dave is a good speaker. Jo

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

It was fun knowing who he was talking about, even when he didn't mention them by name. Community is SUCH a good thing. :) And you really enunciate clearly, Dave - great for a radio interview.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Just wonderful Dave, I hope you know how proud we are of you! So glad to hear you plan to be here another 30 years, lol, I plan to be here too!

If you need help on those extension service sites, I hope you'll do a thread like Terry's and let us help you. I've tried to get the U of GA to link to Plantfiles but they say they have to use their own database, but you're welcome to link to them. They do think your zipcode thingy will be very helpful.

You mentioned the number 9,000, was that the number of folks who contributed something to our Plantfiles or do we have that many subscibers?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I think it was 9,000 have contributed to the PF, Vi. I was happy to hear that 30 year remark, too...Should we hold him to it? ;)

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

YEP!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I enjoyed the whole program. Thanks for the link.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Wow, Dave!

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6a)

I also enjoyed the program, as well as the other site mentioned, The American Garden Mueseum. Beautiful pictures and resources for local public gardens. http://www.americangardenmuseum.com/about.html

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Speaking of which, if you recall, Dave remarked about the new zipcode thinggy bringing up all sorts of info like Public Gardens in the zip. Did everyone know we have that forum here? I love looking at Gardens, and love to see what other see, and how we felt about them. Wish more would post there, I could look at them all day and always wish I knew what was around when I travel. http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/publicgardens/

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Very good!
Almost as good as the ones I give in garden centers anywhere I happen to be. LOL
After all, I never met a stranger and any gardner must know about my favorite site.
I'll now be referring them to this too.
I refer to DG as "Disney for Gardners"

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

How cool is this! I'm listening to it now! Great to hear your voice Dave!

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Well, I don't know what the problem is. I've tried 4 times to listen to the program, I've downloaded the MP3 Player required. The player comes up but it won't play. Glad I didn't take the version tha cost $13 a mth! Wish I could have heard it. :(

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Mistymeadows, I had to be REALLY patient to let it start. (I thought there was a problem, too and I kept fiddling with it. Finally I just ignored it for a good bit and it started up - probably a "spooling" issue ;o)

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

You are probably right there about the spooling. It took forever for the MP3 to download the other night, so I guess I'll just try it again. :) Thanks Terry. Kathy

P.S. My internet actually kicked off before it would finish setting up this a.m. We are having unbelievable wind here, wondering if it's windy in other parts. Anybody in the Cincinnati reading this right now? I have to pick up a friend at the Cincinnati airport this afternoon, she is coming in from London and it is windy here, wondering about the airport there.

Windermere, FL(Zone 9b)

WOW! That was great. The kids and I just got done listening to the show. They got a kick out of seeing a picture of Dave and his carrots. I'm still new to gardening so my kids aren't sure how to respond to this new interest of mine, although they do enjoy the fresh veggies. My time is so limited that I don't really make use of the whole website. After listening to Dave, I'm motivated to learn my way around a little more. I certainly appreciate all of the hard work Dave and everyone else puts into this site so that novices like myself can learn and grow. Margaret

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Dave, ya done good mate. And 30 years sounds about right to me too. And other places on this site that I've yet to visit. Thanks Dave, I learn something new here in your Garden every day. ~Blooms

N.C. Mts., NC(Zone 6b)

Listened to you Dave, sounded great.

Oakland, OR(Zone 8a)

Good evening. My name is Dotti and I am a new member. I live in Oregon about midway between Portland and California border on the I-5 corrider. I am with everyone who hopes that Dave will continue on for another 30 years. I am sure it's going to take me that long to get out of the rank beginner stage of gardening.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

NOT! Have fun whatever stage you are in! (Personally, after all these years of growing I still realize I'm a beginner in so many areas!)

A hearty WELCOME TO DG!!! Be seein' ya around the site!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi Dotti, welcome to DG!! :-) I think most people consider themselves beginners, no matter how long they've been gardening....

So, don't worry - you're in the right place here! And don't hestitate to ask any questions....every time I've taken the plunge here on DG and asked a question I was sure everyone in the world knew but me, I was rewarded with some wonderful help and, often as not, several other people speaking up to say that they hadn't known the answer either.

Enjoy!

I was surprised too. Don't know why, particularly... Anyway, it's good to hear DG being talked about in a wider forum. Thanks, Dave! :-)
