Today was the day, the pod was not softening. So I cut a little window in the thick skin. I was so afraid to pick it too early after waiting all these months!
After 14 months, the pod is ripe!!!
Oh wow!! What happened to the sang? Its beautiful!
14 months is SOOO long lol glad they were ripe!
Thank God I posted this flower way back http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/407599/
when, for I never labeled the pod.
So now I know it is B. SANGUINEA ‘YELLOW QUEEN’ x my orange sang pod. Or it self pollinated......... LOL!
My orange sang:
Cool, I have a red sang but with our hot summers it might not make it. Love the yellow.
I remember you posting a picture of your beautiful "Yellow Queen". So happy that the seeds finally ripened! You certainly are very patient to wait for 14 months! I guess the old saying is true, "good things happen to those that wait"! :~)
I was waiting for the pod on this one and the pods on my pink Vulcanicola to ripen before I brutally offed them. Of course their last day on this planet, they looked so robust and healthy. No sign of mottling at all! But in the summer the mottling is ugly.
Look at how the tap root came out of the little side hole at the bottom of a 15 gallon pot. We had to cut it off to get the tree out of the pot.
Wow. That was a long time coming. Hope those seeds germinate well for you.
Those are some very healthy & very energetic roots! 15 gallon pot.....OH MY~!
Wowie. I never cease to be amazed. So, where does this put you now, with the pod??
I'm so impressed that you stayed with a 14 month project, congrats, especially for your success!!!!!!!
Especially since I have no intention of growing out any of these seeds. LOL
Wow, that was a healthly looking root, Kell.
If you like, 'xplain, re the growing out the seeds part. Love, Arky Dummy
Why, may I ask?
I have no room!!! And my sang days are over. I had a huge one for many years and when I bought these 2 into my yard, I believe they were virused. My huge one caught it and I had to put him down. I was so sad. It kind of ruined sangs for me. Plus I think, you can't grow so many brugs as I have and have healthy sangs.
It is sad too because I live in perfect sang weather. They love my winters and summers. Other brugs feel it is too cool here in summer and too wet in winter.
Kell, Are you going to put these seeds on Ebay? Or somewhere for sale. Joelle
You must be extremely patient, Kell. I know what it's like watching perennial seeds ripen...a few weeks seems an eternity...is 14 months common for a pod? Or is it just the sangs that take longer?
wow 14 months. They are beautiful. Sure wish we could grow them here
I had promised some now 2 years ago to someone, and now I can fulfill my promise! That is the main reason I waited and waited to get rid of these 2 plants till I picked them.
No, I do not sell on eBay. I will see if Jeanne or Miss Lizzy want some to grow out. They live in sang country too. I have 2 pods of Pink Vulcanicola X Liz's Fuzzy Sang. She may not be able to resist. LOL Do you live in sang country Joelle?
I will grow out a couple just to see if they germinate.
Oh my!! I can't even peel these. They are full of green, ready to burst forth. They need to be planted immediately. I even hate to dry them. 14 months was way too long. LOL

kell way to go!! You've got patience! I live next to Joelle in Manitoba. I just got into the brugs last year. If you are planning to send some seeds up north would it be possible for me to try some to?? I've been admiring the sangs but haven't been able to find any.
:) Donna
14 months is a loooong time kell, and they are so pretty, I have one san.red started and I hope it makes it, and if you just HAFTA get rid of a couple seeds fast my mailbox is empty *LOL*
My Goodness 14 months that was surely a long time to wait on seed.
"Way to go Kell"
I hope i have a green thumb for the Burgs as well as you.
You inspire me, I must make Burgs the First plant i learn more about this year.
If i can just keep my little ones alive long enough to have them flower I will be happy.
Happy Gardening!
Robbie
Well actually, they should have been ready in 9 months. I should have picked them then I bet. We shall see! The pods just do not show when ripe like the other brug pods do!
That's a fatty! I can't imagine waiting 14 months, especially if you're not even going to grow any yourself. That's great patience, Kell.
If you indeed are not going to grow them out may I ask...what your plans are for them???cinnabor..... I could grow some
Oh Cinnabor, I think you would be happier if you got some regular brug seeds to grow out. I do not think these will grow well if at all for you in Florida. They like the cool weather.
Heat does them in!
Thanks Kell, Just thought I'd throw that in...See if you would bite... I have a few I have been babying from some seed crosses...I can wait to see if they do anything...So far they are about 18" tall and looking good, but when the heat hits here they will not like it much. We'll see. cinnabor
KELL you have mail :) NO it is not asking for seed.
I did bid on some seed in ebay, and when I went back this afternoon to look someone had put an $87 Maxamim price on it, can you beleive that, the seeds started at 82 cents, I notified ebay, and the seller and they agreed to cancel the order.
Oh my!! So they thought you had bid so much? Must have been seed that grows gold!
You can always ask for seed Doris!! In fact I have some more for you, anyway. But I think this particular seed would not make you happy. It is only for cool summer people!
kell I was afraid people would get tired of my asking, the seeds I bid on were supposedly a Brugmansia, Blue and white, it said my bid now was at 5.50 but my Max was the $87 I almost fell off my chair, I imediatly notified ebay, and the seller.
OHHH, you and Karrie! I wish I had seen the listing. Do you still have the number? I wonder if it was pulled down
No one could get tired of you asking, you are way too nice!!
kell this was the number 4348534564 Double PURPLE ANGEL TRUMPET/BRUGMANSIA
It is still there http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4348534564 and is just a double datura. Glad you got your bidding stopped, Doris.
me too Brugie, I have no idea how that bid was placed, I do know that ebay was having trouble this morning and pages would not load correctly. I think somehow things got messed up.
How in the world could you wait 14 months? I never could have done it.
15 gallon pot? Oh my goodness........... I thought mine were big - 8 gal or so. Oh geez no wonder your hubby was throwing them! (was that you that posted that, about bringing them indoors? maybe it was someone else........) I just took some pain medication, so my brain isn't working so well right now - I really should just go to bed, lol. But I don't want to. Wish it were warm outside and I'd go on a walk out in the yard. I'm antsy. These meds do this to me. I'll be snoring soon - it's the right after taking them that gets me.
What is the diameter of the BOTTOM of the 15 gallon pot, and the top? Sounds like a huge barrell that you couldn't move without a dolly -and no way getting up or downstairs (trying to envision this).
Mine are around 17 to 20 inches in diameter and about 2 ft in height.
FWIW, I got 20 gal (black plastic) pots for selected plants, which turned out to be one, and I did move them via dolly, but it was easy, done at the last minute for the first hard feeze, Dec 15...the pots are big, the brug is 10 feet + tall, but was a rooting, and not in the ground...
