HELP!!!!

crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Hi All. I have a problem. My sister and I bought a wood storage building to stow some of our junk in. This building is 10x16, natural wood color(can be painted) 2 front windows and double doors. Great building. My problem lies with the position of this thing to my house. As I sit here in my den I look out the window and "whoop there it is"!!! about 15 feet from my house. Now my sister had it placed here with a reason she says. Supposedly she has this wonderful idea for tieing it into our landscape with flowers and trees. As it faces the rear of my house, directly to the left is the side steps to my deck. My daughter is going to use a small part of the space for a play house in the warm months so my sister thought having it closer would be good plus she visualizes making Maison her own little cottage garden. I just don't think this is gonna work!!! Somebody please console me....

Well, that *is* close, but if it's going to be used as a playhouse, closer is probably better. (Less problems with critters or insects building a "home" in there if there's a lot of activity nearby.) And adding shrubs and plants around it can help tie it into your landscape. Over time, we become accustomed to new things in our environment, and the shock will wear off ;o)

Lord I hope so Terry. "Reach out and touch someone" has a whole new meaning to me now!! LOL

My suggestion is to build a trellis on the side of this shed and grow climbing vines or roses on the sides and front of this to soften it very quickly and it will give you something pretty to look at rather than "whoop there it is". Add a tree that is brightly colored and will grow taller than your shed that will also add to the picture. Shrubs are nice as are tall perennials around the base of it. Your "things" stored in it will be very handy to the house and the play house will be easier to keep clean too. It sounds like a pretty nice place to put it but I am sure right now it just looks like a shed sitting there on a perch. Time and a few hours of work will take care of that this spring.

Good luck!

Tina,

Have hope, it will be fine. I have this 16X20 foot utility shed with just 1 small window there on the end. I use it for a gym/storage/work room. It sits right there looking into my screened patio. It also has an open foundation. (great place to store all those plastic pots, flats etc under the building :^)))

I suggest plants plants and more plants. I put in canna lilies and daylilies on each side of the pathway. (Pay no mind to the bite marks on those cannas, the leaf rollers are Baaaccckk)

Things always look their worst about this time of year, You will feel better when it is all hugged-up with flowers. Will the child playing there get to help plant those new plants?

I'd put trellis on at lesat two sides of it and plant pretty climbers around it. That would be so nice with flowering vines :-)
