This is a beautiful dog. Is this the one you lost recently?

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

She was my 'pretty precious', the most wonderful friend I've ever had.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

I have been dying to show off this picture of my DD a friend of mine snapped this at just the right time. She has been a gymnast most of her life this is a ring jump and yes she can jump that far off the floor no springs just a little mat (just in case)

WOW! Great shot, and Great form!

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

'Beautiful' doesn't do it justice. Wonderful form and contrast. Congratulations

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Thank you both I thought so but then again I am a little prejustice.

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Perfect form... more like an artist's rendition of how the move is 'supposed' to be made. Definitely wall art - how big did you blow it up and what room is it in?

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Oh you know what 8ft I haven't even made a paper copy of it I really should. But you gave me another idea too she graduates this year so she will be done at the gym :( maybe I will make it into a poster for them and put a logo like "reach for the stars" or ... something like that as a going away gift. Any ideas for an inpirational logo to leave with the younger team members?? They are like a little family and support one another alot in this tough sport.

Oh WOW Weezingreens, now that is some snow! I wish we had "real" snow here. We only get enough to look good for a few days or hours! LOL! Weezin, would you mind sharing some photos of your veggie garden? I see some raised beds to the left of you in the photo above.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Here's one of my raised beds in August.

Your raised bed box looks great. I like the way you have the boards running on the outside for the pvc pipe. My husband and I are in the middle of building boxes for our veggie bed right now and I've been tinkering with ideas for doing this. Thanks for sharing!

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

weez how deep are your raised beds? is the wood treated? I have read so much about raised beds this winter in preperation for putting a few out this spring I think I have confused myself. Yours look great.

The only constraint I have about raised beds is that for edibles, they NOT be made of treated lumber. Other than that, the deeper the better! (Within reason, of course.)

Seattle Burbs, WA(Zone 8b)

Good point Darius. Untreated lumber wont last as long but we will last longer!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Last year I was reading about someone who put a couple coats of mineral oil on untreated lumber for his raised beds. At the time of his writing the beds were almost five yrs old and showing no signs of the lumber breaking down yet.

I also know that untreated lumber will easily last 3 yrs, possibly more, without any treatment. I'd recommend pine or spruce.

Weezin...good looking bed!

My DH makes the raised beds for me...6, so far. He uses 2x6x12' lumber. The beds are 12" high (2-2x6's). He puts a 2x4" top along the edge of the 2x6's, then drills holes the size of the PVC pipe. He slips the ends of the PVC into the holes and makes hoops. He then takes a slightly larger PVC, cuts short lengths, the uses the dremel tool to make clips to hold plastic on the hoops.

We put ground cover under the beds, then sift soil through a hardware cloth screen into the beds. We add nutrients, perlite, and whatever else we want to the soil at that time. The lumber isn't treated, but the outside and part of the inside are painted with Rawhide stain.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Hmmm....sounds great to me. Not familiar with "rawhide" stain. Is that a brand name?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

It took some searching, but I think it's an oil-based stain made by Behr.

Your raised beds are awesome, Carol! I want to put PVC hoops over our raised bed this year. We need to just do herbs and tomatoes this year; peppers ended up being too shaded by the tomato plants and ended up really puny. Maybe I'll do peppers in containers out front instead - plenty of sun there and peppers will blend in better in the beds!

Seattle Burbs, WA(Zone 8b)

I would love to protect our boxes in some way. The wood we used is Fir. Weezingreens, I also like your husbands idea of using the cut pvc to make clips. That is a great idea!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

I'll have to get my DH on here to explain the beds a bit better. They sure come in handy here. Yes, GW is right, Shoe... it's a Behr product... in fact, maybe it was just a Behr waterbase stain. GW, I plant lots of my veggies in pots. This is especially nice for the sun lovers since you can move the pots where you want them.

Sure looks like ya'll got nice dark rich dirt (soil) up there!

You could bag that and sell it to us that dwell on clay soil!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Well, baggin' & sellin' is how we got it, Shoe! We don't have much for soil in the Seward area, so we buy it by the truck load hauled down from the Matanuska Valley.
