DG-Mass Mailing?

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Dave, could there be a way to send one email to quite a few members instead of one at a time?

Is there also a way to have a spell-check thingy on members names when searching to email?

Sorry to ask so much ;>}

I was wondering the same thing about the mass e-mailing, when I was sending invites to our Canadian Round-Up, to those who might not have seen the thread. Never got around to asking the question though, so thanks, Violabird. I'll be curious to see if it's possible!

Ditto that for coop purposes!!!!!

It'll be up to Dave, but given the problems that a few members cause every now and then by attempting to spam the membership with seed requests or "please send your bank account number for the exiled daughter to send you the money from a dethroned king for safekeeping" (and other bizarre things that occur rarely - thankfully) I'm somewhat hesitant to "vote" for allowing carte blanche mass emailing ability. (Even though as a former co-op organizer, I can attest it would be handy from time to time!)

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

Not sure if the word "member" you used Terry was truly DG members or if it meant members AND subscribers. If the former, perhaps mass emailing for subscribers only would be an added benefit of being a subscriber? Just a thought. I sure as heck don't want to be bombarded with requests to help the son of the overthrown Nigerian general. lol

How about spell check? I am a terrible speller and am so used to spell check features on various programs that I have become even less concerned about the problem.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Yep a perk for subscribers only, one complaint and they're barred from the service? I doubt if anyone would risk their membership for a spam. Or make Available for RoundUp, Co-Op purposes only? Or we could request special permission?

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

I have an idea!

If there is a specific need for a mass e-mail - Round-up, co-op, etc etc. maybe we could e-mail someone (Dave or Terry or a DG 'trustworthy' volunteer) the list of subscribers and the content of the e-mail and then they could do it? Course that asks for more from YOU Dave but if it were only allowed for certain "official" topics maybe there wouldn't be too many..

My 2 cents..

The only possible answer here is no, we can't do this for several reasons (most of which have already been stated).

As for the idea of mailing your message to an admin along with a list of recipients, that's also do-able, but would require a tremendous amount of time for the admins, and I don't want to add that burden.

For the foreseeable future, let's just stick with how it is right now. I can give you a tip, however, that will make your mailing easier: use a tabbed browser like Firefox. Open in tabs an email to each person, and then go down the line copying and pasting the message into the body. Sending mail like that to 100 people would only take 2-3 minutes of your time.

Sounds fair to me. And another reason to try Firefox!
Thanks, Dave.

When you intially write to them, include your e-mail address and request that those who are willing please e-mail you off-site so you can send further correspondence regarding the event directly.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Why is it recommended that follow-up e-mails be off-site? DG e-mail seems to work fine - ?

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Yeah, but if you get emails off site, you can collect and put all the email addresses in one email for mass mailing.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Ahhh......of course! Hence the reason for requesting that DG have this function as well. Guess I haven't been awake for all that long yet today :-) Thanks, darius!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Heck of a lot easier than doing the mass mailing through DG each time. The few folks who prefer the sender not have their e-mail addresses would then be a breeze to send through DG for the next update.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Well, it was worth a try :)
It would work fine for the one's who have responded, will just have to keep up 2 lists for now :(

It also would be nice if everyone kept up with the DG addy exchange, http://davesgarden.com/address_exchange/
So now another question, is there a way to sort that too?

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

This may be resolved if Dave gets to do the Buddy List per http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/460836/

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Thanks Ulrich, that gets my vote too!
I'd so much rather keep the DG mail all in one place, after all, it has a life of it's own, doesn't it? Thank you again Dave for DG mail, it really has made my mail so much easier to keep track of, it's just the RU thing, right now.

It's YOUR fault! You spoil us!

Paris, TX(Zone 8a)

What is the addy exchange? It tells me I'm not listed.

jdee -- here's a thread a few down the list in this forum that explains it.
