OK fess up, who is going on a diet this month?
Actually Kell, I just joined 'Curves' tonight LOL...I start tomorrow! Wish me luck!
LOL at the Kitty LOLOL omgosh!
That is what I need Julie, some curves!!! Is that online?
LOL! Not sure....hmmmm I'll ask if they have a website. I think it's a franchise business but not sure how they've branched out. I know I've seen alot of the offices down south here. But I'll ask when I go tomorrow.
All I know is, I NEED IT...BAD!!!! LOL This is 'Me' time now hehe
I would like to buy some curves. See if they sell them.
omg, he is making me feel slim and trim lol
Poor baby!! I know how she feels!! I'd just like to be able to get up without grabbing on to something!! Guess this is the time of year to do something !!

Talk about a "fat cat"! A "happy" fat cat............WTG
Me - I am - on diet - getting fit - I hope - I am committed. Can't fit easily into my clothes and I HATE to shop...so ... what alternative do I have? Unfortunately DH is very fit, thin and eats all kinds of chocolate, cookies, icecream, chips....so I told him they have to stay in his office and I don't care if they melt all over the place!!!
Even got the Juicer out... I am loaded for bear!
LOL
it is useless for me until they decide to quit giving me cortizone shots everytime I turn around. Had a shot 3 weeks ago and a predisone dose pack for a week and then got 6 shots today. Ouch !! those things hurt like heck in the muscles.
And they make you "swell up"!! Hope it gets better.
LOL, great picture Kell.....looks just how I feel these days!
I started the Atkin diet two days ago. It worked very well for me. I quit smoking last year and need to lose the weight I gained.

Shadowgirl...if you can quit smoking...you can do ANYTHING. You have done the hardest thing in life ... smoking is an addiction that is hard to kick.... YAY for you!!! Losing weight will be a piece of cake... LOL
AH-It is easy when smoking causes you to cough so hard you almost throw up. It was getting to the right state of mind not the actual quitting that was hard. Thanks for the encouragment.
gee Carol, I ate lots of pieces of cake and I never lost any weight!!
I quit smoking 10 years ago, my fat excuse is getting very old. LOL
lol Kell
Join Curves - you will feel so much better!! I joined 8 wks ago and eve tho I don't LOVE to go, I feel so much better afterwards. My weight hasn't dropped tons, but now I am going to really watch it and hopefully will see some results!! Got rid of most of the junk foods in the house (just a half a bag of M&M's left) Gonna try stick to weight watchers too. Wish me luck....got a wedding in July and I need to look decent..
I am going on the South Beach Diet Thursday. Trying to get rid of all the high-carb stuff now. I'm having a chicken pot pie for breakfast, lol.
I was on Atkins' and did well but I think the South Beach Diet is a little more sensible. My doctor actually read the book and recommended it.
I loved Curves. I felt so good and lost a lot of inches. But I lost my job, and had to quit (couldn't afford them even though they are very reasonable). If I get the job at the library, or go on Social Security in June, I'll go back. My part time job earns me less than my Social Security will.....
Good luck Woodpirit! With the diet and the job!
I started BACK on South Beach yesterday. I had started it before Thanksgiving, but decided to forgo it in favor of Christmas cookies LOL! I like this diet. I have successfully given up Co-Cola which I was addicted to (one per day), and also bread. Sandwiches now consist of low carb goodies rolled into lettuce leaves and sometimes low carb tortillas. Good luck to everyone!!!
I've just started the South Beach diet. I quit a 40+ year habit of smoking a little over two months ago. I'll tell you what.....stopping smoking was much easier. The problem is, you can do without cigarettes, but you can't do without foot. Making the right choices when eating is a challenge to say the least. I now have to plan, not just grab something to eat. Grocery shopping is harder because you can't just pick up what you want. I really want to do it this time, so I've got my fingers and toes crossed that this diet will work for me. I'm told it isn't a diet, it's a change of lifestyle. Diets fail. Well, here's to a new lifestyle. I hope I can do it this time. Good luck to everyone who is trying to lose weight or quit smoking. I know it isn't easy.
I went on atkins last spring lost 30lbs from may - august. Then went off. I just started back today, 3 hard boiled eggs for breakfast. I went from a 16 to size 11/12, I had to go back on because I invested so much money in new cloths and refuse to let them go to waste. Now my 11/ 12 are starting to get pretty tight. I don't go on the scale ( I hate that thing, and swear mine are all broken) even when I buy a new one it comes out of the box broke lol.
Denise
Poor Puddy Cat .............. that is exactly how I felt after the holidays. LOL
I actually can recommend the Curves method. I never joined, but bought their book and followed the eating method when I felt like that Cat in January of 2004. I have to confess, I didn't do the workout part. I lost about 35 pounds and have kept it off.
I still wanted to lose another 10 pounds or so, but now that's probably more like 17 ..... I can't face the scales yet .... I'm back on the program, so maybe I can check out the scales in a week or two. I was planning on adding more exercise ................... I have a treadmill, but it doesn't see much use.
Hoping everyone does great on your diets.
Proud of you Brugie(stopped smoking)!! WTG
Shirley I am so proud of you and Loretta too. I think I need to quit my 3 pack a day habitat more than dieting. I just can't get my mind right. I have tried patches, gum, sublingual tapes and even hypnosis over the years. They say just keep trying but I can't even make myself try anymore.
They tell me, muscle weighs more than fat does. So don't look at the scales for the first month or so....you should see inches come off before the actual weight on the scales produces any truth to them.
I have NEVER like SCALES either lolol....don't feel alone, now I have no reason to get on them. I'll just keep putting on my jeans from week to week to see if I feel loser. I'm keeping the faith! But I must do the workout. If I don't, which I haven't been, I've noticed I am just getting stiff in my joints. I think you have to use them or loose them. Muscles included
Yes, I am another one trying to lose weight in 2005. And, like a few of the others above, I quit smoking last Spring. Sometimes I feel it is easier quit the smoking habit than to lose weight. Mainly, because when you finally make up your mind to quit for good (and DonnaB, you can have all the stop smoking toys in the world, but until you are ready to make the committment, you can forget about them) it takes a few weeks. But to lose any amount of weight it takes "months" and retraining of eating habits, giving up some of the foods that we love to eat.
BrugAddict, you are right about the scales and the fact that muscle weighs more than fat, but, try and convince the Doctor of that when he weighs you and uses that number to calculate your BMI...sigh
Donna, it is easy when a doctor says that what he found in your lung appears to be malignant. I quit that minute. I've since found that it is not malignant, but it is still there. I don't want to start again and never craved a cigarette at all. It scared the heck out of me. Now....I wonder what doctor I could go to that could scare me that much with my weight. LOL!
Well I have decided to just keep mine, I tried Curves but with my back the Dr. said STOP IT I figure now that as long as I feel good that is all that matters.
Good luck to anyone on a diet. Seems we gain about 10 pounds when we quit smoking. I did!

That would have been scary, Brugie! Praise God that it turned out non-malignant. I did have a doctor that beat me up psychologically about my weight a year ago. I left his office in tears. Never went back. Cried for a week, but went on a 3 month regime of exercise and diet and manged to lose a few inches and 10 lbs or so. But his method was cruel. He basically told me that according to my BMI that I was obese. Said some other things too, about the prevalency of women who are obese to develop breast cancer, etc. It was a shock, because I know I am not obese. I am overweight, as is my Mom and her mom before her and we are all 5 feet 2 inches and under. I wear a size 14 in most clothes. I would really like to lose a minimum of 20 lbs. 30 would be ideal, but I have to be realistic. I have a husband, who loves to eat (and isn't overweight) and a 57 year old metabolism. So I'm gonna give it my all and do the best I can. What else can you do? Donna
My attitude this time is to really give it my all. I can only do as much as I can, and no one can do it for me. I also know that, at my age, it isn't going to be easy. So, whatever will be, will be.
LOL, you're right Brugie. At our age, nothing is easy!
Wow -- this is a truly awe-inspiring group! I wish blessings for all of us to stay the course with these wonderful New Year Resolutions!
Shirley -- that's super!!! Way to Go!!!!!!!
Kell -- you started this thread, did I totally miss your plan of action, outside of buying some curves?
Well, I've never smoked a cigarette in my life, so can't blame my weight gain on that. I went through chemo 14 years ago, and promptly gained 40 lbs. while on the chemo. I thought the only good thing would be that I would lose weight. So much for that idea. I have since gained another 25 lbs. It's been hard for me to understand, since I was always fairly trim (in fact downright skinny growing up). There are no fat people in my family on either side, so I hate it, but everytime I've tried to diet I end up weighing more in just a few weeks after ending the diet. I eat half of what I used to, so I'm sure part of the problem is lack of exercise. I'm really getting lazy in my old age. lol
It's a bummer minigrannie...kind of a bad joke on us as we age. The metabolism slows down and the joints sieze up and the only way we can lose weight is by exercise and activity. Can't go on those metabolism booster drugs, cause most of us have high blood pressure by now, and controlled or not, that's a big no no.
Well, I hate to have to admit it, but I am planning on starting at Weight Watchers tomorrow. I have been on every diet under the sun at one time or another. I think weight watchers is the best because you still prepare your own meals and can eat anything you want within reason and with portion control. But of course along with any diet you have to exercise.
WELL, as long as we are all confessing . . . New Years Day I packed all the remaining Christmas goodies and got them out of the house. South Beach is probably the closest food plan that I plan to use, avoid refined sugar and flour products and watch portion sizes.
I read that as we age we lose muscle and that is the reason for the slow down in our metabolism. I want to be able to garden etc well into the future, so last week I joined a little gym a few blocks from my house. They assign you to a personal trainer until you are familiar enough with the machines and routine and can work on your own. You have to tell them your goal, so mine was "to increase strength and balance and decrease my belly". My arms and legs are fine, it's just that middle part that I need to loose.
Shirley, I also was scared into quitting in 1984. I woke up one morning coughing (not unusual) and when I got up and looked in the mirror it terrified me. Blood was on my face and in my hair. I drove myself (still in my pjs) to the Emergency Care down the street. I had broken a blood vessle in my lung and they immediately sent me to the hospital to have a clot removed. That was the day I quit and haven't ever wanted another. This is when cigs were still about $1/pk. I used the money saved for 'rewards'. If I wanted a new dress or pair of shoes etc I would say "after all, that's only 3 cartons of cigs".
Good luck to everyone with this venture. Let's keep the thread going and give progress reports.

Patricia (JM), I was watching a show this morning and they were talking about diets and such, and the Number #1 diet plan is 'Weight Watcher's'. You'll do great on that one I believe. I just know that from the past if I exercised, it came off eventually and that was even eating half portions or yogurt for me. It just takes time and it doesn't happen over night. But you will see a difference in your weight along with exercise too.
Tonight was my first night to go to 'Curves'. It's not a diet, it's a work out center and it's called 'Curves'. I must report that I am sore as a risen right now LOL...so out of shape lol... but heck I know it's working. My daughter joined with me and she was more out of breath than I was! But I will stick to it...I am wearing a size 11/12 now at 144 lbs at 5-2.5 inches and I WILL NOT go into a size larger lol....I promise that to myself. Can't afford a new wardrobe!!
So Kell, good luck buying some curves LOL, like everything else, we have to work at it to get results, just like with your beautiful 'Pinks'....you worked at it for years to get the results you have now! Stands to reason.
Good luck at Curves, Julie. Sounds like you've got the determination and drive to go all the way. Those sore muscles won't last forever! :D
