Alohahoya lives in Hawaii and could probably recommend something. It has been awhile since I was on Maui so I am sure things have changed.

I have been there before. A few things that you might enjoy, are:

Banyan Tree Park in Lahaina (1 tree - 100 yrs old - 12 trunks)

The road to Hana has amazing waterfalls and scenery. It's a tropical rainforest delight. Make sure your car has power steering as the hairpin turns are tight and numerous (like more than 600). Oh, and if you hear anyone holler "maui waui - pronounced Wowee", don't respond. They're selling drugs. My sister was in the car with me and saved me from saying something that might have gotten me into trouble. Just after Hana is what's called the Seven Pools. Waterfalls from the mountains create 7 beautiful pools of water. Now, I will warn you that the water is unbelievably COLD. It's the one and only time I stood behind the falling waters of a natural waterfall and I will never forget it.

Windsurfing at Paia - you don't have to participate. Just watching others do it is breathtaking. The colors, the water, the sun, the rocky beach areas are just great for taking photos.

Whale-watching - Take a guided cruise. The best time is from Oct - Mar.

That's about all I can think of - other than don't be surprised if your restaurant has geckos running along the walls. They eat bugs and such and actually help keep the place clean. It was just a bit of a shocker at first.

You'll have a great time. I've been on Oahu and Maui and they both have a lot to offer.

My DGD just came home from the Navy and she did a week on Maui...she loved it. Jo

Dispacher1 - We live on the Big Island...but have been to Maui once...to look for property. They laughed at our budget!!!

The surfing beach is call "jaws"....great waves and great surfing.

YES...Hana, for us, is the most beautiful spot there!!! We drove the whole circle...pretty fantastic. Of course, going up to the observatory atop the volcano is a terrific ride up...there is a plant, the Silver Sword, only found up there and it is gorgeous.

If you decide to jump over to the Hilo area on Big Island, give a call. I am in the phone book.

Aloha,

Carol Noel
