Friends from India OK!

Memphis, TN(Zone 7b)

All - I just found out that my friend Deepa and her husband Harichand and their two boys who were all in south India for Christmas are okay - as are the rest of their family - and will be home (Memphis) some time today. We are all very relieved and thankful that our prayers were heard. She said she's got some horror stories to tell - but that luckily they weren't in the worse of it.

Thanks to all that prayed and sent good thoughts.....may we all continue to do so for those in strife in India and elsewhere.

Happy New Year all!

That's wonderful news! Dinu from DG posted, so we know he and his family is safe, too.

I must make it clear that the coastal cities, esp. on the eastern side [Bay of Bengal] were the most affected and also to some lesser extent on the western coast. Southern India is a vast area of land. There seems to be some sort of fear in those who think of visiting beaches in the aftermath of the tsunami. On the west coast of Goa, the number of people visiting there has dwindled already, even though not much happened there.

Where did your friends visit? Another friend of mine who lives in Brunei [near Singapore/Indonesia] wrote to me this morning with a new year wish and I was so relieved to hear of his safety. He wrote that he wanted to visit Sri Lanka on 27th with his wife to see a friend, but cancelled the flight much before the killer waves had hit that part of the country. I read a story in the paper how a family was saved in Sri Lanka. The kid wanted to go to the beach [they were in a 4th floor room hotel near the beach] only after playing, in spite of his parents forcing him to go. The delay saved them all. The wave struck in a few minutes before they left and hit the first two floors of that hotel! There is an old church near Chennai and many had been visiting there. Many succumbed there when it hit.
