The Gator Project

Coopersburg, PA(Zone 6b)

The Gator Project" started with a simple phone call on Thanksgiving Day. A friend's son, Marine 1Lt W. Gregory Skelton now serving in Iraq, requested a neck warmer, or "gator". No longer 110 degrees, it's down to 50s during the day, 30s at night.
Mary's goal is to send thousands of gators to our deployed soldiers serving in Iraq to keep them warm this winter. At last count, they've shipped 1247 to our soldiers in Iraq, including her son. Emails have been sent to hundreds of people with a link to the site, and there are little Gator Brigades starting up all over the country! Even the Girl Scouts are getting involved - It’s been a heartwarming experience for Mary.
It’s a VERY easy project-- 2 yards will make nine gators - each one has just three seams and takes only three minutes to sew. They only cost about a dollar each – probably less because fleece is on sale now. She has also had some donations come in so she can reimburse you for fleece and postage if necessary. If you send them directly to someone there, please email Mary with the amount, so she can update the website.
What a great way to help our troops!

That project fits right in line with all the packages some of us have been sending! (Here is the last thread pertaining to that: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/474300/

I know Roadrunner also had a group of folks making and sending the "cool ties", neck thingies that kept them cool when the weather was hot. This would be nice now that the weather is getting chilly!
