Merry Christmas

Crossville, TN

Pebble, I couldn't be happier than if it had been my own son (whom I am awaiting to land in Tucson as we speak)....but he is coming from TN...through Dallas...so shouldn't be a problem.

HEY! Your sone is one handsome fellow. And the daughter is very pretty too.

♫Merry Christmas to all♫

I don't know why your son was traveling etc. A lot of people here know who you are and what is going on so it makes sense to them.
I have been reading all the threads and trying to figure out if you are living in Turkey as a citizen or if you are stationed on a base. Just curious to find out if he lives in the U.S. and is visiting you, or he is living in Turkey and visited the United States.
It sounded like a really traumatic journey, but from the smiles every one is glad they are finally together again.
Hope you all have a Happy New Year and that all this traveling is finished or at least uneventful if there is a future trip planned.

Pebble is probably busy celebrating - visited with her on chat and she said she is an Am., formerly from the west coast (WA or OR, I forget) and married to a Turkish man. After 9/11 they moved to Turkey when jobs became scarce for her DH. Their daughter moved with them but their son is now living with her sister in the US because of his cerebral palsy. The high school in Turkey has 3 floors and very few other buildings have facilities for the handicapped. She said this was the only solution for their son. This trip was a big surprise for her husband and I can't believe she went through that whole travel ordeal without 'spilling the beans!' You're awesome, Pebble!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I'm sure she'll be along sooner or later to correct or add to this. Earlier DG members knew her before she moved.)

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

Ok, that "splains it" LOL
I was trying to follow what was happening but just couldn't quite figure out what was going on. At first I thought she had sent him to the US to visit his dad. Then I saw his Dad there! LOL
Now it all makes sense.
That would be an ordeal for a mother, but having a son of my own, he probably took it all in stride. LOL What a Christmas gift! A family reunited.
Sure looks like quite a white Christmas in the midwest. I am originally from Illinois and there is probably a good chance of snow there also.

Pebble, I am so happy for you and your family. Happy Holidays to you all!

Louisville, KY

I didn't realize Pebble had stareted a new thread. This is the post I just made to the long one.

Pebble, The news is that all Delta flights are cancelled at least until monday...seems that their computers which schedule pilot assignments crashed. So there are many things to work out before flights are re-scheduled. Alex was really luck! People are still stranded at the Cincinnati airport as well as others.

Pebble, your kids are both nice looking -- take after their parents, I think!

Windy, Pebble's husband is a licensed pharmacist in Turkey, but did not have a license for the US. When he lost his job here in the US, good jobs were few and far between here, so they moved back to Turkey and opened a pharmacy. They also sell real estate.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

HI guys, Kooger and GW, you guys have great memories...with so many members, I am honoroed that you membered my details...LOL...GW, I know you've been around dave's since the beg. practically and you lived the saga of our decision to move and split up the family (wasnt that a traumatic time....)

Life is good for me and my family. I am sad to hear of all the other passengers stranded, the families must be as frantic as I was.....I hope delta can sort out their mess and get people safely to their destination.

Tonite is the Mayor's Ball for the foreigners living here, so we are gearing up for that. We have a huge British population here, so there are fun Boxing day events going on too, we will be busy today. Unfortunately Taylan (DH) had to go to the pharmacy, cause he alternates sunday duty with his pharmacy assistant, the other gals that work there work in the dermacometics, and cant really help him with the pharmaceuticals.....

Thank you all for your support and prayers during this saga.
I will post lots of photos for you guys to share in our joy....

Jo, I hope your son makes it safe and sound....

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Oh yeah, I meant to say, everyone was a bit toasty (or as the brits would say ******...) thats why the photos are a bit off focus....LOL

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Remember how Margaret (Louisa) used to rib me about my notebook? I kept a notebook to help me remember stuff about the people I was meeting at DG! Now I don't keep a notebook - the more time I spent here, the better I got to know folks, and then I started meeting them in real life. It really is quite a community here, unique.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

lol - now that you mention it I do remember....
I havent heard from marge in a while, have u?
This cummunity has become more than just a community, it has evolved into a family. Dnt you think? I mean when I think back on my life since I joined, every major event that happend to me...like when DH lost his job, when alex was going in to hosp, when dh was interviewing in virginia, when we had to decide what to do, the move, when we came here 6 months before we moved to check it out, when dh opened the pharmacy etc., I've shared it all with you guys, so we have become a family. One big happy (for the most part) family.....
And I remember when we were on pins and needles about Howies job, when you got Emma, when you went down to louisiana etc. oh yeah...when we were dieting (LOL) I know Howie's done well, but I have to say, that I have been real lazy in that department....

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Memories....Yes, indeed. :) How funny that we're not even "flesh-met". Isn't that a funny term, but apt?

Howie's done great, something like 85lbs down now! I've been a slacker, though. The holidays are rough. I'm ready to grit my teeth and start in again. Once I do, it won't be so bad.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

well you and me both Kim, here's hoping we do better next year!!

(Zone 5b)

Thanks for sharing the photos Pebble.

And what a trip down memory lane!

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

I get so involved reading threads like this one for instance that I feel like I also know everyone as a person, not just as a member of dave'sgarden.
My husband came into the room when I was viewing the pictures and asked, "Who is that" LOL
I had to explain the whole thing and the snow storm and the plane delays! You get so involved that sometimes it is stressful as if you are really going through the stuff yourself. I have a habit of empathizing and putting myself in other's places, so it gets pretty emotional. I do not have any family in this area, so I may as well adopt some off this site. LOL
It is so much fun to reminence, isn't it. It just shows how everything can turn out whether we worry or rejoice, things just keep on happening and we get so much experience from going through them.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

What a great present for all of you! From the grin on his face I'd say he has missed all of you and is thrilled to have some family time.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Springboro, OH(Zone 6a)
