Two possible new forums

St. John's, NL(Zone 5b)

Hi everyone. I am propossing that Dave's Garden add two new forums. One on Rhododendrons and their relatives (ie. Ericaceous shrubs) and another on rock gardening and/or alpine plants. With both of these garden subjects being very popular today, I thought it might create an outlet for us gardeners who are interested in sharing info on ericaceous plants and alpines or, conversely, for new gardeners who would like to learn more about these subjects. Your thoughts?

I think rock gardening/alpine plants might have a place, not so sure about rhodos...

You might be better to have an Ericaceous (spelling?) Plants forum rather than a specific Rhododendron one. There are loads of gardeners who specialise in alpines so that could go down well. DH loves them and had a large area devoted to them in the UK garden, he hasn't braved them in Texas yet though!.

I'd love to see it happen.

yeppie, yes, I would enjoy that, Thank you, Annie
any chance in the near future of getting a forum on Rocks, Minerals & shells?
I see there has been much written and many photos on DG in researching this!

We had a Rock Garden/Alpine forum a couple of years ago, perhaps now there is enough interest to reinstate it?

Did we? I don't even remember... but it's outside my interests, too.

Yes, I removed the alpine forum in December of 2002 due to lack of interest.

Good ideas! I have a few rock garden type plants and lots of rocks but no rock garden. That's been something I have in my "someday" planning. Maybe a forum would help me get my ideas together. If we had a forum for rhododendrons and their relatives maybe a simple name would lure some of us into it who wouldn't recognize the latin name. Oh, I know, we will learn, but we have to get there first.

Would enjoy seeing a rhodo and azalea forum. This was my hobby up north. I had a shady backyard with huge oak trees and my plants loved the acidic soil. I also had a very rare blue azalea. Although I can't grow them here, I would enjoy listening to your stories.
