Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Awwwww...ain't that sweet?

~julie~

Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

Good morning! How is the weather for everyone today? We are getting tons of rain with temps in the 70s today.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Good Morning Terrie...we've got ice here. Schools are closed and everything outside looks a little frosty.

~julie~

Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

Are schools closed because of the ice? Our kids are still out for the holidays but have to go back tomorrow. I'm sure they will be wearing tshirts and shorts if the temp stays the same.

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Still dry here Julie

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Morning ladies, am still holding kleenex to my nose, darn allergy... It's also greyish white here, so dreary, lights on mid-morning i guess the Sierras are getting all the snow, 8ft so far for them this storm. time the clouds get here there's no moisture left I guess.
Promised us some rain turning to snow for last night, never came... would love some rain, our ground is terribly dry. It's 45* out at ten this morning. we stayed pretty warm last night.

did anybody see the predicted aurora last nite?

Norwood, MO(Zone 6a)

Dreary day here.. rain with temps around 60* .... horses are huddled under the cedar tree... they prefer that to standing under the overhang of the barn... need to run a round bale out there...

did not even try to see aurora... clouds and rain here

glad your puter survived, julie ;)

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Terrie, our kids were supposed to go back to school this morning. Because our area is filled with hills and drastic valleys that aren't fitted with rails, the schools won't take the chance with the buses. (And I'm glad about that...*I* am scared to try driving on some of the roads around here, especially along the river.)

Blooms, I didn't see them last night, but I *did* get to see them a few weeks ago. That was only the second time in my life for the experience! WoW!!!

Starr...I'm happy *I* survived...I get really nervous when I start playing with things I can't replace. :-D

~julie~

Norwood, MO(Zone 6a)

LOL julie... I hear that!! I used to feel that way, but now I treat the puter like a kid... you gotta pamper it but only so far and then you just read it it's rights... lol... I have added a new motherboard, processor, a couple of dimms, new fans, and ethernet card to mine... just make sure you are grounded if you go to crack that box... lol .... good luck with it...

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Oh...Starr...Super! And yes, it's important to be grounded especially working the RAM.

I'm not new to the innards of the computer. I was doing "surgery" back when mouse boards and everything else had to have "interrupts" jumpered or 'dip-switched' just to get the computer to recognize that they were in the box. hehehe (That's a LONG time!) But I've also lost everything with a simple touch of the 'enter-key' when I typed in "Format"...my kid came in, asked a stupid question, and I forgot to add the "B:" (for the floppy disk format)...the machine started whirring and in a nansecond I realized that I had just formated my C: drive. Ohhhhhh the pain! :-D

You have no idea what I'm like when my computer craps out on me. I think I could describe "me" as the earthquake that goes off just before the Vulcano errupts. LOL

...And now you know "the rest of the story." "-D

~julie~

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

oh, you ladies sound so professional.. all that lingo. Starr, you make me glad mine is 'just' a laptop. Tho I suppose it holds all the same things within it. Certainly the fan works hard and noisily at some points. I.m thinking of getting it little 'lifter' legs to let the air circulate better underneath.

Julie, nice to hear of a school district that takes those things into consideration.

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

Oh Julie!!! That's a terrible sob story! I can't imagine how I'd feel after doing something like that. Probably like a lost puppy missing all my photos and files!

My laptop kicked it again last night. DH took a look and when he went to reboot it said something like, "Windows cannot be started. File a#(@#).hal.dll is corrupt." Heard the cursing all the way upstairs. He just reinstalled Windows on it a month ago to get back to a clean slate. It's his old laptop and he got a new one in October. Looks like I'll be waiting a while to get it back as he goes out of town on Thursday. Luckily I have my trusty desktop.

Anyone else ready for Spring? Here's a little forsythia for ya.....

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Brenda...it was a total disaster cuz I was brand new to computers at the time and no one in this area could help me. My 'mentor' lived in Minnesota, bless his heart, he walked me through the entire process over the phone...and back then everything was done at the DOS prompt. Command line only! Everything (as in keystrokes) had to be absolutely perfect. The good thing about it was that back then we didn't store anything except our software on the hard drive. BAD thing was the software had security devices built in that only allowed ONE re-install...and then you had to buy new software. Let's just say I learned my lesson REAL quick! :-D

That forsythia is gorgeous! One of my fondest memories from OK. I've bought a new variety so I'm really looking forward to spring.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Back at you Brenda. I am so ready I can hear the japaneese beattles getting their wings oiled up and ready. Here's teh Musa Zabrina banana.

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

GRC are the banana trees for when your tied of shriek and you do your Tarzan act ??
EVIL SMIRK !

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

THAT does it! Jim...I'm moving to GEORGIA!!! (Well, hehehe, not until AFTER our 5-10" of snow gets here. YAY!!! Julie's going out tomorrow with the camera!! (she hopes!)) But when I *do* move, I want you to help me grow my garden...deal? :-D (Ok...so I'm counting on you to *supply* my garden. ;-))

~julie~

Norwood, MO(Zone 6a)

Julie, I am *so* glad the days of DOS are behind us. Geez, I used to sit with my handbook when I was first learning to 'speak DOS' and it took me forever to get anything done. At least back then you didn't lose everything when it crashed. I surely sympathize with you on that one. It is a heartbreaker. I had it happen to me a couple of years ago. I know to do regular back ups but I had been lazy and hadnt gotten around to it when we had a nasty thunderstorm come through. It took out my desktop, the satellite receiver for the tv, two portable phones, and the toaster. Just like closing the gate after the cows are out, I was sure serious about backing up my pics and data files after that... hhmm, I think I haven't backed anything up in awhile... excuse me ... brb... ;)

You're right, Blooms, it has all the same stuff, only smaller. Your fan may need to be blown out with some of that canned 'air' .

Brenda, GRC, great pics!

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

jim, noticed that your 'Zebrina' is void of leaf markings. Whazzup with that ?
Do the red stripe thingies fade when the leaf gets older ('-'?)

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

Ice headed our way NOOO !
Spring spring all together now , we want spring ??

Norwood, MO(Zone 6a)

Taz, you saying bad words again... bertha gonna get the soap out... and PLEASE don't share your I** with me !!! You don't have to be so quick to share your weather, ok? I am glad you are so sweet and like to share, but not the weather (unless it is nice of course). Share bulbs, share chocolate, share memories, share jokes, but please quit sharing your bad weather.... ;)

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Tazzy, I think the worst ice storm I ever saw was while I was living in Tulsa as a kid. I think we had something like 2-3" of it on the roads. That's one thing I didn't miss about leaving OK for the north woods...UNTIL all the snow dropped down there instead of up here. :-D Hang in there and *don't* go out for a walk, ya hear me? ;-)

Starr...I remember those days with the manuals too. ~sigh~ GLAD they're gone. But I got so used to knowing and understanding what was going on inside that computer box that windows (any version!) seemed like a joke. Actually, I wish I'd started out on an Apple. ;-)

I think everyone needs to make the New Year's resolution to BACK UP YOUR FILES! And in case you think I'm yelling...I AM! :-D It was about this time last year when my hard drive crashed with all my photos on it. It was also about this time last year that I learned about the software that salvaged that hard drive. I don't think I'll ever forget telling my DH that I felt like I was mourning (seriously!) after losing all my stuff.

Now you know *why* I decided to do the defrag *and* write everything to CDs and DVDs. :-D

~julie~

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Yup, gotta pull the plug here tomorrow nite. Need some serious work done on this here 'puter thingie ............

Norwood, MO(Zone 6a)

I lost two years worth of photos when mine crashed and I mourned, too!

We don't get many really bad Ice Storms here, but the last bad one we lost power for 3 days. Fortunately, I always keep jugs of water on hand. We all puddled up in the living room with all the clothes we could put on, and every blanket and sleeping bag in the house. We heated up food in our camping pots on the edge of the fireplace... and played cards and dice games by candle light, told tall tales to the kids.... lol... the worst part of the whole thing was going out to the pond to get water for the horses... now that is another story... lol...

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Tarzan flexes his muscles as he gets harem to bring food.

Well I tell you that Scooter can tell her red and greens apart. Scoot I didn't notice it not having any less streaks than it usually had. I think it was that I was focusing on the bloom more than the leaves. Maybe not enought light.

Julie I couldn't think of any one that I had rather share with. Come on down. You can defrag while I water the plants. LOL

I want all ya'll to know I went to the basement to check on all my plants down there Sunday and I have big elephant ears wanting to go to the yard. Supposed to be 75 tomorrow. I even saw a lady bug in my house this morning. Maybe that's a sign of an early spring instead of the groundhog. Let's see groundhog day add 6 weeks. Lady bug day add 8 weeks. Comes out to about the same. I did lose a lot of brug cuttings that I am sick about. I have over the last couple of years placed the cuttings in plastic bags and let them root. I guess the humidity wasn't right this year and they rotted on me. Well I hope the snow I see this year was on t.v. this morning and it was in Ca. Who would believe that.

Norwood, MO(Zone 6a)

Hello, Tarzan,

I thought you was taking us out to eat! (sly grin)

Sorry about your brugs. I had one and it is fading fast. I am not having a lot of luck with a lot my things this winter. I have not done this before... (over winter plants) and am not doing a great job. But I am learning what NOT to do, so next year should be better,,, lol

Starr

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Hey GRC,
I'm jealous. You have a beautiful Musa bloom and I'm still sitting here singing lullabies to Baby Zebrina and all her other little friends
Dwarf Cavendish, Raja Puri & Ele Ele.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Ummmm...did someone forget his Tarzan yell when he flew into the room? DUCK everyone! I think it was Georg(ia) of the Jungle! (giggle) Hi Jim...you say the sweetest things. With the exception of what you said about losing those brug cuttings. I got one in a trade late in the fall (I won't tell you what I did to it. tsk tsk tsk...shame on me.) but it lived through THAT. Then little bit by little bit it shriveled up. I was going to toss it last weekend when I noticed the tiniest little green budlet (hey it's SMALL! :-p). It's still alive, but barely. Think I might try out one of my heat mats and see if that gets its little heart pumping.

Starr, it sounds like there might be several of us here who should really know better than to wait *too* long. Wednesday is always a *good* day for making backups...:-)

I'm off to bed now. Hope I come back tomorrow and you guys will tell me you're safe and sound...AND backed up.

Nite all,

~julie~

LOL! Loved it, Tazzy!

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

I have to print that one out and leave in the mail box for our postman! He gets a kick out delivering all my plant packages...I'm *sure* he'd enjoy this one.

~julie~

Norwood, MO(Zone 6a)

Thanks Tazzy, loved it!!! And that is a great idea, Julie, mind if I borrow it... ;)

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

use and enjoy

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

Tazzy, I recd. the same letter from a friend. I don't purchase presents for our kids and g.kids, just go to the bank and get money and then put in envelope.
When you have every thing, what do you get them??
We keep telling them, don't buy us anything. They sure don't listen. When you get our age, you don't need much nor do you have room to store any more!!

Maxine

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Maxine...I hear you on that one! Besides, the kids today have very definite likes and dislikes. This year they can buy their own presents. ;-)

~julie~

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

One daughter just wanted $$ to pay for stuff she already bought, the other went shopping with me & I wrapped everything up for under the tree. I just bought a few surprises like toesocks & bath items. Mya daughters are 18 & 20--hard to surprise them now....

And DH has definite wants too--mostly buys before I can get it under the tree!

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Wanda...I know what you're talking about, especially with that DH. :-D Mine bought a new RC model airplane kit...and when he did that he pretty well wiped out the funds *I* was going to use to buy him something. Of course he didn't *wrap* it either! LOL

~julie~

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Maxine, me too, I keep begging the kids NOT to buy me more stufffff - have run out of roommm sez I.

Then DD shows up with the darlingest fairy that she says she couldn't resist getting for me. How could I not smile and treasure it? And DS showed up the day 'fore yest with a robot dog that is hysterical to watch as it walks, barks, wags it's tail if you pet its nose.

Then he adds "this one won't die if you forget to feed it". Referring to the pet rock thingy he gave me that woke me in the night wanting attention and eventually died when I failed to hit the right buttons. We have a good laugh over that one and he hugs me and goes on his way with his errands.

We exchange token gifts at Christmas - Ove gloves for the 2 boys that barbeque, deerskin gloves for the one that doesn't, Navaho crafted necklaces for all three girls - all just symbols of love and caring. None of us have the bucks to buy the electronic, digital, high end doo dahs that we hanker after - for ourselves or for each other.
There is a definite blessing in having grown kids. ~Blooms

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Hey Blooms...you killed a 'pet rock?" LOL It must not have been one of the ones we had back in the 60's/70's I think I still have mine somewhere. Probably mixed in with the ones I pick up from everywhere I go. ;-)

~julie~

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

well, it wasn't really a pet 'rock' it was a digi pic thingy and it would beep when it wanted attention and ya had to push buttons to 'feed' or 'clean up after' -

I try to make the rocks that follow me home live outdoors but some really special ones manage to get in here.
