Blue Poinsettia

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Has anyone seen the blue poinsettia yet? I really am looking forward to seeing one. I hope to have one also. I still have my last years poinsettia and now I have three new ones. I posted one already with the multicolors and I also have one that is curly. The curly one is interesting also. What kind do you have? Oh, I have a white one too.

I have a standard, run-of-the-mill red one I bought from someone doing a highschool French Club fundraiser. What are your best tips for keeping them alive, HoniBee? I've never bothered trying, but this year I may. :)

Garden wife, it truly is possible to keep them alive for the next year. You have to remember that the ones you buy at Christmas have been forced, grown in the dark and released into the light to bloom. They are not terribly stable. If you would like, I will dig up the instructions and post them?

I have a dark red, standard red, pink, curly red, and now I need a blue one!! Wow! Going to go see that next!

I hate to dissapoint, but there is no such thing as a blue poinsettia. They are white ones that have been spray painted.

Looks like you're right, at least in this case...

Yeah, it's not too nice to fool the general public, is it?

Buried Treasures, thank you for setting the record straight. I'm so mad at that site I posted a link to for trying to pull the wool over our eyes. I hate that kind of marketing! I'm glad to know the truth now.

if you look around on the gertens' site you will find that they do admit to painting them. still sort of neat looking.

Kinda reminds me of flocked Christmas trees...

barrington, IL(Zone 5a)

gardenwife, that's right.....and you don't really see flocked trees anymore thank goodness. i remember as a kid thinking that anyone with a flocked tree was rich. i don't know why i thought that. how about that stuff you could spray on your windows that looked like snow? or that paint that when it dried would sort of crystalize and look like stained glass?

unfortunately you'll find some tropical fish in wild fluorescent colors that have been injected with pigment. Although I think public pressure from groups like PETA may have stopped or reduced this practice.

Our walmart had them, they are beautiful, I think they had some other fancy looking ones too,
