It's Snowing!

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

We have about 5 inches of snow already (about 5 hrs of snowing, so far and it is still coming down good). I just heard that in Seymour, Indiana (dispather1 lives there), they have over 9 inches already. Two Indiana counties have declared states of emergency and the roads are horrible. It is suppose to snow all day and into the night, maybe even tomorrow and we had sleet underneath.

Just wondering how your weather is today?

Stay warm and safe, Kathy! Snow is really falling here as well -- looks to be about 3 inches. It is suppose to snow into the night and again tomorrow.

I'm almost embarassed to say it is 50 degrees here right now and tomorrow we will be in the mid 60's. Monday our high was only 21 degrees and we had received an inch of snow the night before. Is there such a thing as weather vertigo? :o)

COLD! It was -6 deg. at 8 am this morning. Thankfully no wind. Streets are still ice-covered from the freezing rain 2 days ago. Small towns don't do much sanding. The highways are clear. Terrible accidents from the freezing rain 2 days ago. So many crashes on the interstates by Sioux Falls. 7-8 people killed total. So sad for their families. This was the first bad driving conditions this year for us, which is about 2 months late, but every year it seems that first ice costs people their lives. SLOW DOWN!!

I'm so sorry you all have such conditions this close to Christmas

Carol, Where are you located? Kooger, that's the thing about our area, we get a lot of wrecks and then there are those people that think they are invincible. We don't usually get snow like this. Oh a few inches ties up the community and no milk and bread to be found, but this is going to be a doozer! Makes me think of Rudolph and the storm to cancel Christmas LOL.

I am, thankfully, enscounced (sp?) at home and have nowhere I have to be. My daughter, however, works at UPS in Louisville and when she left for work, the roads were fine, now they are treacherous and she has to get home (1 hr 15 minute ride on a good day). She dropped the kids off at their other grandmother's and I expect they will be there a few days. They say there is another storm twice as bad on the backside here.

DH just decided he had to go to town (professional truck driver) and thinks he is okay. I'm going to try not to worry about him.

Gary, you take care of yourself. Hope Katharine is feeling better. A nice day to sit at the window and watch all the birds and boy do we have a lot of them here at the farm today. So many cardinals and they look beautiful against the white snow.

Everyone be safe and warm.

Kathy,

Tell your daughter to check into a motel!!!! There is no sense in taking a chance on her children not having a mother!!!!!

I second that motion, Kathy!

I agree with you. I was just going to call her and tell her to go to a motel close to work and I'll pick up the tab!

MistyMeadows, I live in Southeastern Virginia - across the James river from Williamsburg in a rural area. The temperatures we are having are not normal for this area this time of year - we should be in the middle of both extremes. I had to smile to myself when you mentioned that milk and bread are scarce because every four years or so we get a big snowstorm, and when folks stock up they raid the grocery store shelves of toilet paper. :o)

I hope you daughter doesn't try to drive home under those road conditions and gets a place to stay for the night. Surely UPS won't be expecting their folks to deliver packages in that kind of weather will they?

Surry, VA(Zone 7b)

MistyMeadows, this is just a suggestion but I would make a reservation asap. It's the holiday season and alot of folks are traveling on the roads, so hotel/motel rooms may be snatched up quick.

Kathy, how come you didn't post this in the Weather Forum? Do not enough folks read it?

Hope your dau. is safe!

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

LOL. I forgot there was a weather forum. I only follow about 4 of the forums now. :) She is safe and sound, it took her several hours to get home. She couldn't get out for work today and tomorrow she's already been told she doesn't have to go in. Thanks for asking. :) Kathy
