I have lots of crushed pecan shells, I am told some plants can use the shells with some benefit.

Why not ! Hershey chocolates sells their cocoa shells for garden mulch up in the northeast.

And Peanut shells mixed with water co. sludge is big here in the south - I buy it by the truckload for potting soil - $30 a load.
