Well..did it get cold at your place?

(Zone 8b)

It was 20 here at 8 am so it must have been colder before sunrise - Yuk and double Yuk - I'm not designed for this sort of weather! Though with the sun on the snow it looks really pretty from indoors!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

It was 36 this morning, it's 41 now with wind. Brrrrrrrrr...they forgot to turn the heat on in the office last night and its cold in here too! I had to go to Laguna Vista this morning at 9, they are on the bay and the wind off the water was like ice. I think I saw a snow flake or two, but could have been my imagination.

in Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

It is 36 here now. It was 33 here this morning. yuck.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Only got to 34 here this morning so we were spared a frost again. It sure feels alot colder with the wind blowing the way it has been lately. Hope it will warm up a bit but it sure dosn't look like it is going to.

You were warmer than we were! it was 30 here, rain and lots and lots of wind. No frost.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

20 tonight is the predicted low. Coldest I can remember in years.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

BBBBBBBBBBBrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...I don't like this kind of cold weather.....Give me sunshine!!!!

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

I thank my river for the protection I get, I don't know how long it will be able to keep the frost away but it does keep me warmer than most around me. I neighbor on the street over will have frost on her lawn and I will not so I is a good thing to be so close. But I know if it stays cold for long it will freeze me to........... This is my back yard view. Kinda yucky now the wind has blow leaves branches and everything all over the place. But in summer it is beautiful and in winter the warmth from the water keeps my plants in good shape or so far anyway.
It is about 33 now so I don't know what tonight will bring, if the temp stays the same or gets lower I am pretty sure this is the night I will see some damage to my brugs in the ground.

Everything here is covered in a fine coat of ice. It has fallen to 29 with a chill factor of 14. The covers over the plants are stiff with ice. I think I'll be replacing a lot of stuff or replanting grass where gardens were! It has not been this cold here in 15 years.

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Oh susie,
............I've been wondering how you were doing.

I kept hoping it wasn't as bad as the weather channel was reporting.

Plants can be replaced (don't we all know?)

Keep yourself and loved ones safe and warm.

Maybe your gator will move to warmer parts.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I hope the gator gets a frost bitten nose! My poor nanas are frozen solid, a thin layer of ice covers everything. I'm toasty warm in my house but the electricity keeps blinking off and on. We have a fireplace, but would have to go cut a tree to have something to burn. Some of the homes here have no heat. I hope they went somewhere warm for the night.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Sleet began to fall just about 5 o'clock this evening and everthing is covered now. It is dark and I have gone out with flashlights to check on things in the yard. They don't look good........... Bananas are frozen here to, brugs are on the ground most are broken and those that are still standing won't be by morning. This will be bad and we will suffer a lot of damage if this sleet continues through the night. So far it has not let up since 5 and it is 9 now. It is not coming down at a heavy rate just steady.

I hope the best for you Cala, but I don't think you will fair any better than me, MsC, or Moon when this is all over............
8o(....this really stinks.........wish I woulda taken more cuttings now...

My son's Parents in Law arrived unexpectedly from The Valley a few hours ago. They drove up here to keep warm! His house in Fort Worth has heating - theirs doesn't, they don't normally need it.
Fortunately Christmas Lunch is one of those meals its easy to stretch - just add a few more roast spuds to the pan and it will be a full family party tomorrow.
This will be my first white Christmas in 60 years, and its in sunny Texas not cold old England!

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Right now we have about 2 inches of snow on the ground, man what a difference a couple of hours can make...........LOL
I love the look, so pretty and white, and the light sparkles off it like diamonds. How beautiful it is, just wish it wasn't soooo cold and freezing right now..
How is everyone else doing.
MsC how are you, Calla...........you still there?
Dee

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

We got aobut 6 inches of snow in the TX Panhandle!

In the last eight years, we have had 3 or 4 white Christmases.

Love the snow, hate the cold... her is a pic of the road to our barn...

First snow in a hundred years here.

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

Calalily you moved here to get away from it and it followed you. Just look what you did. LOL

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I know, I had to move to south TX to have a white Christmas!! I can't get away from the snow and cold, it follows me!!

Kirbyville, TX(Zone 8b)

Well we had some cold weather to say the least.....it was 30 degrees here in Kirbyville (50 miles north of Beaumont) last night. They had predicted colder temps than that, so I'm cold but happy......no snow as predicted, but that would have been a plus, since it's cold anyway~ My bananas, gingers, cannas, and pond plants are mush....but my philodendron sellom is still hanging in there.....I shoved all container plants in my small greenhouse, and covered my other tropicals that are growing in my atrium with plastic, the plants are protected with a fenced area, plus the plastic, so hopefully .........I was tempted to turn on a small heater in the atrium to be safe......but with a 15 degree warmer temp in there, everything looks ok so far......I'm with everyone else here, I'm a cold weather weinie, and running through the yard with sheets, plastic, tubs and cardboard boxes, makes one a weary worried gardener...lol....I did have a nice fire burning last night in my firepit, hoping to keep the temps a bit warmer for my newly planted palms.....what we gardeners will do!!??? LOL~ Debra (SE Texas Kirbyville)....ok where did I put those legwarmers??

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

no snow, I guess it will take a while before we know if there is any damage.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

4 sale...
leg warmers

LOL I could only find one, so I didn' t put them on. How do you lose one leg warmer? They are so much bigger than socks, they can't disappear in the dryer???

It should only get down to 28 here tonight.

"We're havin' a HEAT WAVE!"

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

LOL... Heat Wave??? Please share..:)

We are supposed to be around 35.
Lastnight we had plenty of snow everywhere and on everything...
Bird baths were frozen and a few plants too.:(

The goldfish didn't freeze and I didn't loose any outside birds-YET.lol

Kirbyville, TX(Zone 8b)

Unfortunately I spoke too soon, about my philodendron sellom, tonight's hard freeze has it in sad shape.....my palms look to have some damage too....silly me out at this time of the night checking on my plants......all I did was bum myself out....maybe I should buy that one leg warmer you have Tamara, I'll put it over my eyes~ The temp is 24...that sucks! I dare not go look in the greenhouse~ Debra~

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

poor Debra~
I have a polar fleece NECK warmer for over the eyes, MUCH more stylish LOL
I am up too, but not checking on plants, just getting ready for a few visitors tomorrow (today).
Check out my pics in the photo forum under snowball fight...

anyone like snow ice cream?

btw, my big sis lives in Kountze, not far from you. will call her tomorrow to see if she got all her plants inside...

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

one of my cycads, a six year old Dioon Edule, fell over in the night spilling soil and exposing roots. The D.Edule are
known for their cold hardiness but I am very nervous about the exposed roots. I have brought her inside and given a good watering (after soil was replaced). I also am a little worried over a Majesty Palm. Its in ground and should be alright but you never know for sure. Only time will tell.

Yikes, Carefull on the water !

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Tamara, cut toes out of tube socks for instant leg warmers. If you want you can surge or hem them. Know your boys love the snow. at least now it's white. When I was six the snow in Borger was grey due to the Carbon plant there. Merry Christmas.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

Oh, yes I worked there briefly, at the CB plant. You don't want to be eating any snow if you live near there, yech!
