2005 Portland Yard Garden and Patio Show / Speaking

Beaverton, OR

This week, I was sent a letter with the speakers schedule for the 2005 Portland Yard, Garden and Patio Show.

If any of you in the Portland region will be at the show and want to drop in for the topic of pruning, tree care and landscape design, my time is:

Saturday
February 19, 2005
Marquam Room
12:30 pm until 2

It's props, photos, models and PowerPoint. This will be heavy on tree care, and will show how the art and science of pruning is the entire foundation for landscape design plans when trees and shrubs will be included. Hence the topic title: GROWING A LANDSCAPE DESIGN LEGACY.

If not yet, it won't be long until the full schedule is online. I plan to attend a couple of seminars myself.

This is not the home and garden show. This is as written above and will probably be at the Portland Convention Center with the two massive glass obelisk towers.

I'll repost again a few weeks before the show.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

mdvaden, you're saying you're a speaker? How neat! Congratulations, and best wishes!!!

You may want to let dstartz and/or darius know to add this to the DG calendar here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/dgevents/ (I think dstartz does the PNW events, but darius does the flower shows, so if you contact them both, you're guaranteed to get somebody's attention ;o)

Mount Angel, OR(Zone 8a)

It seems like there is another show in the same time period at the Expo Center too, isn't there, mdvaden? Do you ever get to the Far West show in August that is there at the Convention center sponsored by OAN.

Beaverton, OR

There is another show in Portland separated by one week, usually at the Expo Center I believe. The Home and Garden Show.

Strangely, I've never been to the Far West, but think I will next time.

By the way, I enjoy speaking, but I'm no big name like Mike Darcy of anything - those guys get the massive room. I had about 40 in audience two years ago, which was not bad for late on Sunday afternoon the last day. Especially with attendance on the low side due to the terrorist threats.

The speaking went well that time. I think I surprised people the first 5 minutes. After reading the topic, quite a few people had a certain perception about what they were going to hear (meaning they predetermined what the ouline and content should be - but they adjusted quickly).

I don't write or speak about much if all I'm going to do is reinvent the wheel. I speak to tell people a lot of what they won't be able to access via books or experience (along with basics).

Anyhow, comments afterwards indicated that people benefited and understood what I said.

It will be a blast this year to use PowerPoint with images because I can scribble on the screen to illustrate so many things.

(although I'm sure many of us have mastered the art of waving our arms with success!!)

Sure would love to attend but unfortunately I will be no where near Portland on that date. Sounds like I could learn a lot from you.
