I don't need any seeds Donna, thanks. I have way more plants than I know what to do with. Plus I have a huge bulb order arriving soon, and I mean huge. Not sure where they're going to go. I tend to go overboard buying bulbs and plants. As I've said before DH has 270 different roses with more on order. We're a bit plant obsessed.
Christmas Pet Picture Contest
Sandy and Jeanne thanks again, the seeds arrived today! Only 3 survived the trip the other two were powder like, I don't know if Canada Post crushed them or maybe they froze. The three look terrific and are soaking...keeping everything crossed here. Joelle
Mine arrived yesterday, all intact. Thanks very much once again, Sandy & Jeanne! Especially as my photos weren't even Christmassy.
I'm going to start soaking them tonight, which will give me just enough time to pick up a warming pad before it's time to put them in (on) the soil. I've been meaning to get a pad anyway so this is as good a reason as any. I'll keep you posted as to their progress! I think I'll call 'em eeny, meeny, minie and moe...and one to spare. :-)
Shannon
I feel bad for you, Joelle. Let"s just pray that all of the other three germinate and grow to be beautiful Brugs! I got mine yesterday as well and they too, were all in tact. Sandy did a wonderful job in packaging them so well. Mine are ready to be pressed into my sterilized warmed potting soil tomorrow. As Sandy said, we'll all have to watch our progress with photos or something. I guess Joelle could call hers Huey, Dewey and Louie! :D

Donna, what are you going to call yours?? you've set a high standard for names here.... must be good LOL
Linda, you know I thought I'd name mine after the Marx Brothers, Chico, Harpo, Groucho, Gummo, Zeppo. Whadya think?
What a riot! Does that mean I have to come up with names?
Gee, I 'm sorry about the seeds Joelle. I wonder what happened as they all looked good when I sent them. I hope the others make up for the lost ones by growing really well.
I'm glad yours arrived safely Shannon. I don't put mine on a warming pad but if you want an excuse to buy one this would be a good one. If you guys cover your seeds I would watch them closely. I'm beginning to think that the other brug seeds like it but maybe not sanguinea. Just a theory at this point but one of mine wasn't looking too good so I took the cover off. I never used a cover at all with my first ones.
Ok then, thanks for that tip, Sandy. Maybe I'll leave mine on the warming pad, but will keep the plastic wrap off.
That's great Donna, great names
Hey it only takes one! I am just so happy to have these seeds! I have never grown Sang. before and when I saw Kells on Brugs and pals I got all excited. I love her yellow one, they are such cute looking little perfect shaped blooms. I should say this quietly but I think I like them better then the other varieties of brugs. Please don't throw anything at me I bruise easily. Joelle
Welcome, Rocky makes a great lap dog.
Glad you joined, now tell us about your gardening, and where Frenchman Butte is. This is a great group, lots of chatter, join in and get to know us.
Linda in Victoria
Hi Pat. I'm glad you joined because I'm sure you'll enjoy it here. You'll get the hang of everything in no time and if you have any questions just post them on here and everyone will be more than willing to help you out. It's nice to see a picture of Rocky and your DH.
Sandy
Rocky is a darling!
Thanks for the welcome! I'm really enjoying this site and looking forward to participating and learning. Frenchman Butte is in Saskatchewan, almost on the Alberta border, 40 KM north of Lloydminster. I grow mostly vegetables. Right now it's -35 degrees C and my garden is under a foot of snow!
love rocky; he is a handsome boy. how old is he?
Hi eaglesview, nice to meet you and Rocky. Welcome to DG!
Rocky's a great-looking dog!
I'm from Saskatoon; I knew roughly where Frenchman's Butte was, but have never been there. BTW, if you have any pics of your garden in warmer days, we're always ready to ooh & ahh! :-)
Dave's Garden should come with an addiction warning, especially in the winter...there's lots of good info to be stumbled upon just by exploring. Enjoy, and welcome!
Shannon, in sunny (but wait five minutes...) Gatineau
Rocky is almost 6 months old, still a puppy!
Wow, Pat, if Rocky grows into his feet he's going to be huge! I got curious about Rocky when I saw your name on the CT forum...my first time through this list, what wonderful pets everyone has.
Love the colouring on that Franklin cat. And that guy beside the stuffed cat...Kirby?...could cuddle him forever. They're all so lovable, makes me seriously think about getting another dog or a few more cats. Now if only I could convince DH that the dog we have will train a new one? It would definitely be smaller than our incredible hulk.
thanks Sandy for starting this thread, it was great to meet everyone's babies. And what a hoot Harley is in that blanket!

Wasn't going to post a pic, but couldn't resist sharing this one of my *outdoor* pet, Who Knows. Pat's horse reminded me of him.
who is his buddy behind him? are you able to grow your own hay or do you buy?
Grow enough in the valley for the horses and about 40 head of cattle--the cows aren't ours but we share the fields and the feeding, as the cow owner is here only in summer. He has the equipment for putting up the hay, so it's a good trade.
The dog in the background is my precious Hobo, who died a year ago at age 14. i still miss him constantly, even though our new dog has already won my affections. A friend painted a portrait of Hobo and it is above my computer. All our pets have been special, but he was.....especially special.
Just having a quick peek on my noon hour at my newest addiction, and couldn't help myself, I had to respond to the pic of Hobo that you posted Rosemary. I get a little tear in my eye just looking at him and knowing how difficult it must have been for you to lose him. That's something I had to get used to when I moved from BC to the farm, losing animals, seeing animals that had died, and I know they're not all pets, or even close, but it's always hard. Thanks for sharing.
Pat
Pat, thanks for understanding.
Addiction is right! I'm taking more coffee breaks now so I have an excuse to check the forums. And I never used to *drink* coffee!
It's RAINING here. Boo. I like a winter 'wots a winter. Give me clear and cold anytime.
Hobo's pics are so beautiful!! The Littlest Hobo.....
Thanks for telling us about him, Rosemary.
Shannon
Your picture reminds me of a picture my Dad treasures.......the dog died over 50 years ago but my Dad's memories/stories of him will never fade.
Rosemary - That is a great picture of your Hobo and what a nice way to remember him. It prompted me to share the oil painting that my husband had done for me for Christmas of our dog Kirby. I just love it! It is very Andy Warhol-ish - not really life-like but not really abstract as it captures her image perfectly.
Susan
What a neat painting, Susan. I love it!!! Your husband is very gifted. Thanks for posting it.
Shannon
Thanks Shannon - My husband isn't actually the artist (sorry for the confusion - writing wasn't my best subject in school). He had it done by a friend of a friend of ours. My husband said it was a nice experience meeting the artist because the fellow was genuinely excited to do it and actually thanked him for letting him paint the portrait.
P.S. - Any action yet with those prize brug seeds?
I love that portrait Susan. What a great idea for a gift too. Your husband must be a sweetie to have it done for you.
Hi Susan,
Your writing was fine, I just read it wrong! I forgot to answer your P.S. - No action yet, but only because I haven't made it down to buy that heating pad. I figured I'd better not start soaking them until I have it. I'm going to try for tomorrow morning - good excuse to go to Lee Valley...not that I needed one! :-) I hope to have some pictures of seedlings to show you before too long...
Shannon
One of mine is starting to get a root but of course I got to have a few days head start on everyone else.
