Merry Christmas everyone! Here's my dog Kirby with her new friend. This fat cat was actually a gift to me but Kirby seems to have adopted him...
Christmas Pet Picture Contest
Aw, is that ever a cute picture Susan.
LOL. Great photo Susan!
Susan......just what kind of a puppy dog is he or she?
Roselaine - Kirby is a case of country girl meets yuppie boy. We got her from a ranch just west of Calgary that is becoming surrounded by new housing developments. The farm dog mama was a border collie/austrailian shepherd and her daddy was a wheaton terrier from the new surrounding neighbourhood. As a pup there was no indication that she would be the shaggy girl she is but we love the look!
Hee Hee, isn't Kirby cute?
He's really cute. I didn't know there were black gerbils.
Great photos everyone! They're all winners in my book. Thanks for posting them. Hope you're all having a happy and healthy start to the new year.
Shannon
When do we satrt voting, Sandy?
I said Sunday so I guess we should stick to that. It's going to be tough for me to make a choice there are so many cute pictures.
Oh, yeah. Today is only Saturday, isn't it? I dunno why it feels like Sunday to me. Sorry 'bout that.
C'mon guys, put your vote in. Everyone can vote whether you entered a picture or not.
Sorry, I can't vote. There are just too many really good ones.
I'm having a hard time too. I hate to choose just one. I'd like to see everybody win. Maybe we should just split the seeds between all the entrants. After all there aren't very many.
Oh dear, I can see I'm a great one to hold a contest.
Good idea, can I still enter?
LOLOL
Ok, I guess I am the first to vote...
And my vote is for BADGER, the black gerbil!
My vote is for Harley and Santa!
Every time I look at the picture of Kirby with the fat cat I laugh so I guess that would be my vote. It looks like we've got a tie though so we stll need to split the prize.
Sorry, I can't break the tie...I love'em all! :-)
Sorry everyone. I wasn't really sure what to do since this didn't quite work out the way I thought it would. It was nice to see the pictures that were posted. I didn't get any objections to the only solution that I could think of which was to share the seeds. So....I will get them from Jeanne in the next day or so and send them off.
Sandy
I have sneaked in to enjoy all your great pictures! Really glad I don't have a vote, it would be impossible!!!
Pati (the Florida lurker)
Welcome anytime, Pati. Glad you enjoyed the Canuck Pets! Have a Happy New Year!
Sandy - Please keep my seeds and maybe grow a brug in Kirby's name. I enjoyed seeing everyone's pets - thanks for starting the thread. My growing season is short and I don't have the space inside to give the brugs the attention I think they need.
Happy New Year!
Susan
Hey, I think this is terrific! If anyone wants some I will share with you.
Okay, I think I've finally got this all worked out. I was waiting until I had a chance to talk to Jeanne since she's the one providing the seeds. Jeanne has given me 20 Red Sanguinea x Red Sanguinea seeds. We decided that the seeds will be split between all 5 eligible entrants. I think that's fair since I said "Maybe we should just split the seeds between all the entrants" when it wasn't looking like anybody was going to vote.
Susan (durtcom) doesn't have enough room to grow them so I will grow one of mine in Kirby's name. That leaves Donna, Shannon, Joelle and me. I will send 5 seeds each to Donna, Shannon and Joelle. I hope you all think that's all right. I would like to thank Jeanne for her generosity.
I have your address Donna so if Shannon and Joelle could send me theirs I will get the seeds in the mail very soon.
Sandy
You've got mail, Sandy
Want to thank you Sandy for organizing this contest. We all really enjoyed participating and seeing everyones dear little Fur Babies. It was good fun!
This is really generous of you, Sandy and Jeanne, to contribute your time and seeds. Can we send you postage at least Sandy?

You're welcome Donna. No don't worry about the postage. The way I'm packaging them to send they can't bunch up so they'll only need one stamp.
Thank you both so much. I have lots of double scarlet peony poppy seeds if either of you would like some. Thanks, Joelle
You're welcome Joelle. Thanks for the offer of the scarlet peony poppy seeds. I did want some but already managed to get some from a trade.
I've packaged up your seeds and will send them tomorrow.
Sandy
Woops, I thought the tie was only between the people whose photos actually got votes ;-), or I would've responded...sorry bout that, Sandy. This is a very generous offer! I have to admit that (and I sense this is akin to sacrilege in DG!) I hardly even know what a brug is, let alone how to care for one. How do I know if my house and I are up to it?? Do I need any special stuff?
Shannon
LOL,Shannon...you are about to be bit! You don't need anything special. You'll love growing them. I have quite a few growing now, and I can't wait for the blooms next summer. Check this link:

I found the info I got from echoes and Liz about planting very helpful. When you get the seeds, soak them for a couple days (some peel them, I didn't and they sprouted just fine) then press them gently into good quality sterilized, potting soil, water them, cover container with Plastic wrap and set on warming pad. Do I have all that right, guys? Anyway, mine just grew gangbusters. I am sure you'll have good luck with yours too, Shannon. :D
Well, it just happened that it worked out nicely to share the seeds that way Shannon. It'll be a nice new learning experience for you. You'll probably end up hooked like the rest of us. I sent the other 2 envelopes this morning so if you send me your address I can send yours off too.
Donna, it looks like you got everything covered pretty well. I might add that you shouldn't keep them too wet as they can rot. I started some recently with a cover over top and some of them went moldy. I don't know if that was the problem but I took the cover off. So you do have to keep an eye on them at first. I hope you have good luck with them.
Sandy
Good point, Sandy. I also forgot to mention that they need light. Mine do fine in a South window, but suppose most of you use grow lights.
Sandy, you have mail. Thanks to both you and Jeanne for this generous offer! Especially as my pics weren't even all that Christmassy....I owe you guys one!
Gee, what can we get for Jeanne of her wonderful photos of Oscar? What kind of seeds would YOU like , Jeanne?
Good point Donna!
