Quick! Please give advice on boiling out alchohol!

Posted this on recipes, too. DH is making a pound cake for a charity bake-ff at work and needs to know how long to boil bourbon to remove the alchohol. Also, once it's reduced after boiling, should he just put the reduced amount in or does he need to boil more so that the reduced amount is what the recipe calls for? Thanks soooo much!

DH tells me "a short time" is all it takes...unless you are processing a few gallons!!! LOL

Don't know the answer to your second question...what does the recipe ask for?

The cake is going to bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes, internet site said that only 20% would remain with that baketime. So that plus a little boiling before baking should take care of it???

My guestimate is that bringing it to a boil would take care of flashing off the booze on 1/4C...turn it off after the bubbles start..or earlier.

What a waste!

LOL :) Thanks so much :) We're figuring most of it is out, but the taste is still there! :) Now safe for children and pregnant women..LOL. You all are funny. We'll label it "Teetotaller's Bourbon Brown Sugar Poundcake" :) Thanks again!
