I can't believe its almost time again to dream about winning a million dollar home. This time its in Tyler, TX and from the few pictures I've seen, its going to be amazing. I can't wait to see the special. I entered in the past and plan to do it again, its free so why not? Are there any other "dreamers" here?

The 2005 HGTV Dream Home; who else is dreaming?
oh my.. beautiful house.. I am gonna to try again! lol
I saw it but if i won id want to sell it!!! :)
Can you imagine the taxes!
There is no way we could keep it either but its nice to dream though. What others have done was to sell the house and kept what was left over after taxes. In Texas atleast from what I know of, they don't have a state or local tax. I find it fun just to dream though. With my rotten luck (I've never won anything) I know I won't win but atleast it won't be because of lack of trying.
From what the site says, its the biggest house yet. I also noticed in addition to the vehicle, they are throwing in $250,000. I hope they've made arrangements for it to be tax free somehow. That could help pay off some of the taxes atleast but then the maintance & future property taxes would have to be considered.
BTW, my DH thinks I'm nuts to dream about it but last year when I told him I entered he didn't object.
Gemila, do you get up and get all dressed up on the day they give away the Clearing House money? I knew a girl that did that every year, she just knew it would be her--lol
Sandra
Hi Sandra,
No I don't dress up for that either. When I was a teenager, I'd used to get those pkgs. along with the letter saying I was a winner and they did trick me into believing but that was along time ago. I would watch the tv special though and then noticed every year it was always a senior citizen person that always won so I gave up hoping I'd ever win.

Oh yea....I WANT it....
Ever since the Dream House in Mexico Beach Florida was awarded to some people in PA who could not possibly appreciate the wonderful community that is Mex. Bch... I've given up on the Dream Houses. I don't want a Dream House in Tyler Texas. My Dream House has always been in Mexico Beach. I must have registered for that house like a thousand times....
I might add that HGTV had that place (The one in Mexico Beach) landscaped beautifully, but nobody watered, so all the plants were dead by the time the people who won were given the keys. Also, they were given a boat, but the boat was kept in a place where they could only get to it during high tide. It sat on dry land at low tide! I do not know if they still have that house, but they were completely befuddled as to what to do with the place, "I don't know how we'll afford the taxes and insurance."
True, homeowner's insurance in coastal Florida is out of hand, but have those people ever heard of renting your vacation place out, blacking out a few weeks for yourself each year, and letting the rent pay for your taxes and insurance? Hello. People buy property all the time and live in it only a few weeks out of the year. That's why you hire property managers who are local...
You get a place like that, don't worry about taxes and insurance. Sell all the furniture that isn't you, and sell the boat and car as well... You don't need all that. (Well, you might need the car.)
That florida house was beautiful! I was secretly wishing a gardening person would win it if I didn't cause of the greenhouse. I remembered it was filled with orchids and the owners gave all the plants away to local florists, etc. It was nice of them to give the plants away instead of letting them die but atleast they should've given them to people in the area that wanted them. I know if I had won and wasn't keeping the house, those plants would've been shipped back home w/ me but I guess those folks weren't plant people, what a shame ;(
I have a feeling the house in Tyler won't be hard to sell. I looked at one of the videos and the contractor (I think!) said that people from all walks of life and even the rich that have seen the house say they wish they would win it. It would make a great vacation house for any of those mega rich texans. I think I'd sell some of those knick knacks on Ebay as momentos from the dream house. Other wacky & crazy things have sold so why not?
Did you see they are giving away (weekly prize) a "Doggy Dream Home" LOL, because I'd not make my dog stay outside (if I had another one).
I like that doggy house too. My Aggie would really appreciate it too. He likes being outside but doesn't liked getting rained on. He ducks underneath the glider bench until I open the door for him. I wonder what he'll think of the snow when its taller than him?? LOL
I'm not sure it's my kind of house. I would definately sell & put some of the money into our own dream house. Ours is not just a house, it is a home as we have been here for 21+ years. Someday we will actually get done with our remodeling project!
As for the taxes to be paid on the proceeds, who cares! Whatever is left over is a whole lot more than I had before.
Have a great day!
Bernie
