Does iVillage own GardenWeb?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I was on iVillage's site today, trying to figure out how to contact the editors of Good Housekeeping when I stumbled over the links to their "sister sites" at the bottom of the "home and garden" section: http://www.ivillage.com/home/ - and found GardenWeb listed as a "sister site".

Hmmmmm. So I went to their Investor information: http://www.ivillage.com/investor/ and found this (I added the underlining to the text):

Quoting:
"The following affiliated properties and Web sites under iVillage.com: The Women's Network ("The iVillage Network") are measured by comScore Media Metrix: iVillage.com, iVillage Astrology, iVillage Family, iVillage Health, iVillage Substance, iVillage.co.uk, Americancapitalservices.com, Business Women's Network, Cosmomag.com, Countrylivingmag.com, Countrylivinggardener.com, Gardenweb.com, Goodhousekeeping.com, Housebeautiful.com, Mail.com, Marieclaire.com, Marieclairereader.com, Promotions.com, Redbookmag.com, Sendthisaround.com, Tncweddings.com, Townandcountrymag.com, Webstakes.com, and Women.com.

All references in this release to The iVillage Network and comScore Media Metrix include these web properties.

When I searched GardenWeb for a mention of iVillage, all I found were several threads complaining about the iVillage pop-ups, so maybe this is something new? At any rate, it was a bit of a surprise to me, so I figured I'd ask the people most likely "in the know" - our own gardening community ;o)

I found that same information when I "left" GW last year at this time. Actually I think it was Gourd who pointed me in the right direction. But I came to the same conclusion, that Ivillage was the corp. umbrella for GW. They got a nasty letter from me, and I have refused to visit any of their sites since. I won't even give them the satisfaction of a "hit". So, if we are right with the assumption, it is at least a year old.

After reviewing their financials, I can only assume that GW must use the services of either webstakes.com or promotions.com, both owned by iVillage.

Nothing that isn't public record, just your basic 10-Q:

Thanks for the 10-Q info, Dea; it appears you and Terre_ are probably correct.

Well, apparently my memory is really short. (They say memory is the second thing to go. Funny, I can't remember what goes before that! *grin*) I had completely forgotten I posted this a year ago: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/408007/ - I guess that's when we first caught wind of something going on, but there wasn't the link on the iVillage page like there is now.

The odd thing (IMO) is that there doesn't seem to have been any announcement (formal or otherwise) of this business relationship (partnership? investment? buyout?) within GardenWeb - you'd think it would be worthy of a press release or at least an internal announcement to the GardenWeb membership.

LOL, I thought it sounded familiar, but then saw the 2004 post date.

Looks like iVillage's muckity-mucks haven't sent Gardenweb to Disney yet, eh?

I Just Noticed in the Last Month that the Pop-Ups are So Annoying!
And Major Advertising Sponsors Like....
The Loose Rolling Cherrios Rolling Across Your Screen.
And Every Time You Click/Hit the 'BACK' Key...Up Pops an iVillage Ad!

I Sent an E-Mail to the Webmaster Link. Which I am Not Sure Still is the Sudinem..."Spike" (Hernandez). My $15 Subscriber Dues were Due the 9th of December. I Sent an E-Mail to Them(the Webmaster) and Stated Until the Annoying Pop-Ups for iVillage Stopped I Would Not be Paying to be a Subscriber. Now I Continue to Get The Notice Across the Top of the Page that My Membership Dues are Due...(Get Real...I'm Not Paying and it's Very Annoying!)

Did Anyone Else Notice Last Year that They Moved Their Mailing Address From NJ to MA. Maybe that is When the Website Moved to iVillage.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

HAHAHA - I received that "Your Dues are Due" stuff about a year after I was kicked off..thought it very funny. Finally wrote a not very nice letter to "Spike" and it stopped. I also received Happy Birthdays too...

Thanks Terry...you guys run a great site.

I still get Happy Birthdays and have been Disneyed for nearly 3 years now.
