OOOOH Isn't he handsome....and I have a granddaughter that would match him perfect...except she is in the Navy!! LOL Jo
Troops in the Middle East, Part 2
I have to agree the box on the customs form to list items was very small. I hope they have great eyesite or a magnifying glass because I was very detailed! Now I know how much each indiviual Little Debbie Christmas cake weighs just in case I ever go on Jeopardy! LOL
Dea, it never dawned on me to think about our soldiers at Walter Reed. It's not too late to send Christmas cards or a care package, so if you have any names please let me know asap.
Kell, I am only saying this jokingly, but if the customs comes to get you...... Just tell them your name and the fact that the original slim jims are made from beef and mechanically separated chicken. Just the facts ma'am - just the facts. ;o) If we end up in the same jail we can always always say we know who sent a rubber snake to get early parole! lolol
Lookie what I got today!
These are Christmas Cards from the children at South Marshall Elementary. I'll put them in the mail tomorrow and hope they get there on time.....these are so cute, they'll enjoy them even if they don't get there till July though. Each soldier has a card especially for them. The children in 3 different classes took a name and made a personal card for everyone. It's going to be great fun deciphering the handwriting to decide who has what card though...dexterity and penmanship weren't high on their priorities...just the artwork and the sentiments inside........
Get out the Kleenex ya'll....here's a few of the messages...
from Jeffery...."thanks for fighting for our freedom"
from Paul...."thank you for fighting for us. someday I want to be in the Army"
from Becky..."Happy Christmas. You have done a good job. Thank you ."
from Pat...." I hope you have a good Christmas. I hope you have a good war.By the way, I hope you know that your family loves you"
from Brandi..."thank you for fighting for our country. I want to be just like you"
from Whitney..."thank you. I hope you get to be with your family for Christmas"
From Austin..."Please be safe. Wish you good luck. Merry Christmas"
and my personal favorite....
from Hallie...."Merry Christmas. Please, if you hear the name Amy McDonald, please say that your daughter wrote to me"
I guess I'll send them all to A1C Nesbitt and he can play postman. If anyone has any better ideas...post here and let me know. I won't be going to the post office till around noon.
"Rubber snake? What snake? I didn't see no snake! Anybody see a snake? Not me...I can't even touch a snake! Snake? Not me, uh-uh!..." ;>)
Mel...That is great! Love those cards! The troops will love 'em ten times more! (Can see some of them stuffing theirs in their pocket to carry around w/em.) That class done good, eh!
Oh how wonderful...Kids are the ones that brings out the Christmas Spirit in all of us. Jo
Those cards are wonderful, that last one though brought tears to my eyes.
Um..Carol-- In my experience , there is a difference in weight between the Little Debbie in the package and after it has passed my lips. It is always in Feb. when I know Really why I wear sweats.
I hope that ignorance is bliss and that the customs folks are as cool about my general listing as the postal guy was. :) x:)x --
Way to go South Marshall Elementary kids! Their handwork is beautiful! Thanks Melody for hooking them up with this project :)
Beautiful Melody.
I sent an email to Nesbitt that he may be receiving the cards for distribution and he should at least send me an email confirming receipt and reactions. Hope and pray is about all I can do now.
Cards went out this afternoon...with luck, they'll be there by Christmas.
The teachers said that the kids had such a great time doing this that they are already planning for Valentines after they come back from Christmas Break.
I'm going to print out 3 copies of the picture posted in the first thread for the children's classrooms. I also included the school's address in the card package in case anyone cares to send them a note. They have no expectations of any correspondance, but surely one soldier will send them a note...the cards sort of got jumbled up, so I don't know what kid goes with what class...but the school is well aware of the project, and any note sent to them will get passed around all the classes.
I had to get another box of Little Debbie snack cakes...the first box didn't make it...
fess up - who ate them????? lol
I confess..it was me! Those things are good!
Since you confessed, we'll have to forgive you - just like George and the cherry tree, eh? (I passed on getting any, figured they'd get crushed too much in the box.)
Okay, here is a question...what happens if the box is mailed without a customs sticker? Is it sent back? I just had the mailman pick it up at my house...
My boxes went out last week - I included letters written by me from Carter aged 10mos. and Nicholas age 17 months telling them they got the stocking stuffers instead of getting another stupid truck!
This was fun...I had a great time....hope to do it again!
thanks,
Carol
I am amazed, I already received a thank you from one of my guys..that was quick.
(edited to correct blond spelling of received....i before e except after c...sigh)

Dear Ms. Magno,
I would like to say thank you for your kindness to myself and my personnel this season. I have mailed you a thank you card, but noted your e-mail. The mail system is kind of slow here and it may take some time to get to you.
Thank you again
Senior Master Sergeant Tom Gartner
380 Expeditionary Security Forces / “A” Flight

HOORAY!
Thanks Jo for passing that along.
Personally... I really enjoy even a short note acknowledging efforts. I'd just as soon get that as something in return.
Of course Gartner is a senior member too... he understands.
Jo, or anyone else - care to start a #3 thread so it's faster?
Here you go.....Jo
