Staying logged in to DG via DSL

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

SO1's computer is on DSL, and one of us is almost always logged in to DG; we rarely log out except to allow the other person to access their own watch list. :)

Are we taking up precious resources when we're logged in, but not active on the site for an extended period of time? I ask this because I know some websites have a 'time-out' feature for inactivity.

Also, if we don't log out of DG, but close the browser window, are we still using resources?

Just curious whether we're being resource hogs,

Gosh, I never thought of that... I'm going to watch this thread for an answer. I don't think I've logged out in 3 years!

Dave can answer with absolute assurance, but my best guess is it doesn't hog resources here.

Your ISP might require you to log off occasionally (but probably not on DSL - we ran into that issue when we tried one of the cheap dial-up services and our ISDN modem wanted to stay connected 24/7. Big problems.)

No, it doesn't hurt at all to stay logged in. The web is a stateless application, meaning that except when you are specifically loading pages, you aren't actually using the server.

Therefore, what you do on your computer has no effect on DG, including keeping your web browser logged in at DG.

I hope that is a good explanation. :)

Wait a darn minute here...

I'm supposed to log off?

:-))))

I just keep on typing and typing away until the day the pink slip arrives at my desk....

I hear you, NC! Thanks everybody, I wouldn't know how to log on, if I had to!

Woo Hoo! I don't have to feel guilty for being logged in 24/7 now... LOL

Thanks, Dave. Your explanation was perfect, and I should've guessed you were set up for us DG addicts, er, cleptobotaniacs, er, groupies! *giggle*
