I have to interject here about putting "See photo ID" on the back of a credit card instead of signing. You should write "See photo ID" AND sign the card. Without your signature for the cashier to see, a thief can put his/her own signature on the card and then use another form of ID as "proof" that they are you.

good idea, pins - but they would have to have your whole wallet then, just not one card. And that still should not help them, if they have a smart cashier, because their picture ID would not have your name!

If they have your debit card, chances are good they have your whole wallet, though.

so true, but then your picture wouldn't match the guy carrying it -hopefully!! :)

Also it'd be fishy when you see their name signed over "Check ID". But you're right, if it's possible, I bet a crook can find a way around it.

Some places will not accept "see photo ID" (or anything similar.) At least one local US postmaster here has a big sign stating that your credit or debit card must be signed or they can't accept it.

wow - I've never seen that before!

I like the joke about going into a store with an unsigned card & the cashier asks that you sign it. Then the cashier CHECKS it - so glad they MATCHED! Like I said - there are ways around all security features. You just have to keep a close eye on all accounts, & do the basics for your personal safety. They could steal my last penny - but I freak when my Mom sits alone in a parking lot in the car - I tell her she is a car thief magnet, & she could get hurt in the process - not something that can always be fixed! (I add that the 20 pounds of notes & mementos in her purse would be stolen, too!) THAT seems to get it through to her!
