The life span of a thread

Absecon, NJ(Zone 7b)

I am not certain this is the right place, but here goes anyway.

I have these questions in regard to how long a thread appears in DG:
A. After an X period of inactivity, does it die automatically
never to be heard of again, or is it archived away somewhere?
B. Should the initiator no longer be a member, is it deleted
and discarded automatically prior to A.?
And lastly,
C. Can the person who initiated a "thread" put it asunder,
i.e., have it erased prior to any of the above?
If so, what is the procedure, i.e., can they just do so
(if there is such an automated facility), or must they
obtain the agreement of everyone who posted to it?
Or is this means of erasure disallowed no matter?

I realize I am risking this becoming a thread.

Please, anyone?

Threads live indefinitely, unless Dave retires a whole Forum, which does happen but not often, just for lots of inactivity over time.

Threads become dormant from lack of activity but do not go away unless someone finds the old thread and re-activates it with a new post. There are some revived now that go back to 2002 with no activity inbetween.

Threads outlive the starter who may or may not still be a member, because threads belong to all of us.

Threads may not be deleted by a starter nor participant, because threads belong to all of us. However, any user may delete their own posts at any given time, thread and post by thread and post.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the rundown. Some threads are like a ball of yarn, but going back through them can be very informative. Storage space for the entire site must be growing, growing, and growing, yet response time is instantaneous. Outstanding job by Dave and his helpers to provide such excellent service.
