Canadian Roundup part 3 /29 Nov/2004

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

Your pictures from Butterfly Gardens are beautiful Linda. Very nice Brugs Liz.

I hope you don't mind Linda, I also looked at a couple of your Brug albums. They're beautiful. You have some great brugmanias. I love the tendrils on Whiskers.

Hi Liz, and Happy Holidays to you and yours! We had a nice Christmas also with the kids, and the grandbabies***** it was Gavin and Dylan's first and both of them had little sore throats....you are right, being with your loved ones is what makes it!! luv E

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

I think we should also plan a brunch at the Empress while there. She's such a grand old gal.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Absolutely! I think that would be a wonderful idea Lynn. It's been nearly 40 years since I last saw it, but I was so impressed with the Empress and all her "Majesty".

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I have just been informed by work that I will be unable to get the days off in April to attend the RU. :-(
Guess my honey bear and I will have to meet all of you another time.

Marc

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I'm sorry to hear that Marc. :(

I vote for the Empress too....I've never eaten there.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Awww...it would have been nice to meet you and your honey bear, Marc. Maybe next time. Orrrrr... if there is ever a RU there, I've never been to Seattle! :D

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Got your tote cheque today Shannon, thank you. Cute card, LOL

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Thanks for letting me know, and for organizing the totes!! Glad you liked the card. It was a coin-toss between that one and a racier one - I chickened out. Maybe next year :-)

BTW I am on hold with Aeroplan at this very moment, hoping to book my RU flight without too much pain....wish me luck!

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Luck !

It worked, Donna - thanks! Those strange AC folks....the web site told me it would cost 25 000 aeroplan points, then the first woman on the phone said it would cost 37 500 points and she didn't know why the website said what it did but she couldn't do anything about it, then after a couple of calls to the technical help desk the 2nd customer service woman on the phone just took my word for it and booked me on the dates I wanted for 25 000 points, even though it wasn't showing up on her computer as being available for that rate. Guess I should be grateful for small mercies....even though they made me work & fret for two hours for it. I'm arriving in Victoria at 4:57 pm on Fri. Apr. 1 (knock on wood), after changing planes in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver....good opportunity to read up on brugs or something :-)

I'm in, for the Empress by the way. We'll just have to stop at the side of the hotel and hose the garden mud off our boots first ;-) I think we'll need reservations - any preferences for which day?

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Yehhhh, Shannon. Hey, wait for me at the airport and I'll be there an hour later on my Westjet flight! Just hang out in the airport lounge and have a cocktail, and then one for me, and by then I'll be there. and just think how "happy" you'll be... :*)

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Okeydoke....I'll be the one passed out under the table, cause two cocktails'll be about all it'd take after that day :-)

A friend was telling me that in the gardens at the conference centre near the Empress Hotel there are quite a few beautiful brugmansias. They were in bloom when she was there. She said she was very tempted to take a few cuttings and put them in her purse but it was an RCMP reunion or something so she didn't want to take a chance. Her husband is in the RCMP. I don't imagine there would be much to see in the gardens in April.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8a)

gals, I should tell you that the restaurants at the Empress are truly a ripoff!!! I was a tour director for 15 yrs and took many people from around the world, only to hear..........that was awful! Don't want to blow anyones' bubbles, that's the truth! There are so many interestings haunts in downtown Vic. Sam's Deli, etc...Ever since the 45 million renos on the old lady herself, during 1986..the place has never been the same! just feelings on my part.....the brugs you refer to are part of a huge tropical display conservatory(orig built in the early 1900's for Queen Victoria. E

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Would it be worthwhile to go to the conservatory at least, Elaine?

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Please continue on part #4 of the Canadian Round up thread, this one was getting too long. Thanks.
