Wishing everyone a very Happy thanksgiving!
No, I didnt find a turkey this year either.
It's really hard celebrating Thanksgiving when DH is working till 8 at night, daughter is at school with basketball afterwards, not getting home till 7 or so....and no other Americans around to celebrate with you....The Turks just dont get it, you may recall last year my inlaws thought I was being weird when I couldnt find a Turkey and got upset that we wouldnt be having a special thanksgiving dinner..... (it's just not the same with traditional turkish foods....)
I'll be thinking of you all with warm fuzzy thoughts...
How will you celebrate this Thanskgiving? Are you cooking a big dinner or going somewhere?
cheers!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!
Hi peeble, it must be hard at times to live among people who have such a vastly different culture but from your other posts it sounds like you have much to be thankful for even without the turkey. So, what are the big holidays there?
My brother came up and took my parents on a scenic train excursion for the holiday and the kids could not make it here so Bob and I volunteered to work so that a couple of younger workers could take the day off to be with their families. We will have turkey Saturday and eat left overs for a month or two. We do this on most holidays that the family cannot gather and it feels good to be able to let others spend the time with their own.
Hi Pepple I am having thanksgiving at my daughters house, over the woods and through the leaves.LOL There is a small strip of woods between my daughters place and mine, around 75 feet. She said she would give me a break but I will be doing Christmas. The only thing i did was go over last evening and helped make filling. I did the taste test. I get to do all the tasting I am beyond a few extra lbs hurting me. Have fun with your day.
Pebble .. No doubt that it may seem a bit awkward and/or you may be feeling somewhat 'isolated' (for lack of a better word) ...
Ol goofumbus magpye here .. but, it sure seems that you may have far more reasons and blessings to be thankful for ... For just having your hubby and your daughter, and knowing that they would be home shortly .. is a great blessing in itself!
And, you, are surely a wonderful blessing to others also .. !
The particular t-day bird, is mere symbolic. Your blessed treasures are there with you ...
But this is one humongus globe we all share .. no matter the distance. We're all 'family' in ways that perhaps over half the population of this wonderful planet .. hasn't an inkling as to just how deep our our roots go Pebble.
Altho' us fellow DGers may not be 'blood' kin and family to you - I shall remain hopeful, that it may offer some wee consolation to you - to know that we're, and surely your real family folks .. are there with you .. in mind and spirit ..
We jes may end up having a big ol pot of homemade chilli to woof down, if we can't get up and out of our driveway this morning! hee
I'm sure we got ourselves a bit of ice last night ...
I wish you and yours there .. a wonderful and most Blessed Thanksgiving Pebble !!
- Magpye
Pebble, too bad you couldn't order a frozen turkey on the internet. Could you have found the rest of the trimmings, like cranberry sauce?
I'm roasting a cornish game hen, dressing on the side. Anything larger than that is too much for a one-person household!
Happy Thanksgiving, my Friend!
Pebble...and all my other freinds here...I wish each of you a glorious Thanksgiving.
One of the things I am most thankful for is Dave's Garden!!
Love & Hugs to ALL!
Jo
Darius, no, there is no cranberries here either... last year I had Alex bring a can of it for Xmas...
It was definately a weird day here....I kep looking at the clock and thinking, if I were home, I'd be putting the turkey in, doing this doing that...and then well, the day just seemed to pass.
Now I am waiting for my husband to come home, I have his dinner ready (turkish) Michelle wanted something we call Manti here which is kind of like a ravioli, it is eaten with yogurt.
I have been grazing all day so wont have any dinner.
I am happy to see you all.
Zany, what a great way to spend the day.
Oriole, nice that you dont have a long way to go, and get ready for Christmas, it will be here soon and it will be your turn,
Magpy, I do consider DG my extended family.....I hope you enjoy your chili....
Darius, how are you doing? I hope you are doing better, enjoy your cornish game hen. with all the trimmings.....
Jo, where are you celebrating? you never stay in one place too long do you? are you with family?
PEBBLE...
Here's your turkey~! Compliments of me! Hoping this helps you cure da blues!

Happy Thanksgiving Ya'll! τΏτ
Happy Thanksgiving, Pebble!!!! There was plenty of food here and only my one of my bros.,wife, and daughter. My DDs were not with us either.
But you know I kind of enjoyed the quiet. What kind of holidays do the Turks celebrate? Are there a lot of Moslems there with their various holidays?
Shoe, that was too funny.....
Joann, sounds like u had a relaxing time though.
Yes, we just had a big holiday couple of weeks ago, it's called Seker Bayrami, it's the one that ends the fasting period, a big deal here, then in january we have Kurban Bayrami, which is when they slaughter the sheep...yuckk
pebble i was thinking about you all day yesterday as i was cooking dinner for my gang! i was wishing i could send you a turkey-but then i thought about it taking a month to get there-that wouldnt be nice!
