Just found out K-Mart has bought Sears .
This is all I know at this time....
I'm sure someone knows more than I do about this...

Yes, this has been in our news for several weeks, not sure how it will work out, we lost our K-Mart and Sears does not do too good

I thought it was the other way around? Sears bought K-Mart?

I'm second guessing now, but I thought that's what I heard.

I just did a little more online reading, and when you google it, you can come up with reports of sears buying kmart, and reports of kmart buying sears. So I'm even more confused than before. But then, confused is a normal state for me. LOL

Joan, I was at Sears today and the fellas told me that it was true.
They don't know what's going to happen.
The store doesn't look the same except for the tool section.
Truly, it's messy and so disorganized now...

Our K-Mart was in a wee bit of trouble, this is why I found it hard to believe.

This area is becoming a concrete jungle..
Lowes, and many others are building , rumors of Walmart coming...
We don't have the roads to warrant all of this happening. It's a small area and was a resort. Three main Roads so, they'll be even more accidents..

K-Mart filed bankruptcy a few years ago...surely Sears bought them. If not I'd like to know how that works. lol I did hear that since the tools are one of the biggest selling items at Sears that they would be the same. We lost quite a few K-Marts here but do still have Sears.

They merged, and the Sears name will be used for the new company. Sears feels its a good way to compete with stand-alone discount retailers WalMart and Target. The combined company makes them the third largest retailer, and provides Sears with new property where they want to be. (People are doing less shopping at malls, and more shopping at stand-alone stores.

I think I also heard Martha Stewart items will be sold in the old Sears locations; Sears appliances may be offered at the old K-Mart locations.

Should be interesting...

Yes, it will be interesting. The town that I do most of my shopping in has both a Sears and a K-Mart. The Sears store only has appliances though, so I'm now thinking that that store will most likely close and move in with K-Mart.

Or maybe they'll move the Sears appliances into the space that K-Mart now uses for Martha Stewart stuff, and move all the Martha Stewart stuff over to the stand alone Sears building. It would take a building about that size to stock all that stuff, and it wouldn't hurt my feelings a bit to have it out of K-Mart.

Interesting..All of the K-Marts in Madison WI were closed a few years ago; would love to see some of the products back-expecially the very small pieces of pine bark mulch that I cannot find anywhere else.

Crossville, TN

I heard on the financial segment of the news a week or so ago that K-Mart paid so many millions of dollars to accuire Sears....they also said that Sears ??? would be the Corporate name, but the stores would continue to operate under their own names...

Now...I think that is the way I heard it....but remember, I am OLD! LOL Jo

well I wish them luck, but here in our town when the Super Wal-Mart was built it klilled every other store in town.

Super-Wal-Marts ALWAYS kill all the Mom & Pop stores, and decimate many of the the other stores. The locals here love WallyWorld but thay cannot see past the noses on their faces. Wait until it's their jobs.

Spring Hill, FL(Zone 9a)

Here in Hernando county (Fl) there are 3 Wal-Mart Supercenters within ten miles of each other. There are also two huge empty big box stores that were formerly K-Marts so maybe Sears Holdings will re-open one of them and provide some choice to shoppers.

Yeah, my statement could be considered political, and it will probably get pulled. But a woman's gotta stand up somewhere.

Tremont, IL(Zone 5b)

My husband is a Union man & Wal-mart built 2 stores, one in Washington, IL & one in Morton, IL non-union, so we will NOT be shopping at either one of those. We already limit what we buy there & try to give our business to the local grocery stores & K-mart, Target, etc. Who wants Wal-Mart to be the only place to shop & if we keep doing our shopping there to save a buck or two, eventually, it will be the only place to shop & then they'll start hiking their prices.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Darius, I like the Mom and Pop stores. Unfortunately we don't have many in this area...

Use to be we had to travel fifty miles to buy pots and pans. Now we can walk into the super markets and never go anywhere else it's all there. Even to Booze...
It has to crash some where along the line...

I personally hate WalMart. I never shop there unless its for SuperThrive, because I don't know where else to get it. The way they treat their people is inhumane, what with locking the doors at night so nobody can steal from them. People have needed to get to a hospital and couldn't! Plus, there are too many sexual discrimination suits for my blood. I'm just so tired of companies considering us all sheep. Saving a buck or two just doesn't get it for me as far as WalMart goes.
