Went to a concert

Leo Kottke played in Camden, 2 towns south of us. He is classed as "American Finger-picking style". That's wrong. nobody plays like he does. I have records over 20 yrs old of him playing. He has a 2004 CD and a 2003 CD of him with the bass player from Phish. His new CD has some guys from Los Lobos. Since Segovia, this is what you can do with a guitar. Yes I love Jeff Beck and Hendrix, but going acoustic here. (See John Fahey too) In jazz see Stanley Jordan and Pat Metheny. I just try to play a bassline to these great melodies.

That's pretty cool ... while I don't recognize but a few of the names you made reference to, I do hold a very high esteem for guitarist in general.
My father was a professional guitaurist and bass player, but his style of music was more on the lines of Texas Swing and the music of the early 40's , big band music. He loved classical guitar music and it is one of my favorites.

I still have my fathers original old Classic Gibson from the early to mid 40's and my hubby is now learning to play on it.

I enjoyed your post...
Thanks

After reading your post I went to rhapsody to take a listen. While this is not my style of music I can certainly appreciate the gift. It's fun to try and imagine how fast his fingers must be moving. :)

Leo is an awsome guitarist...is he still representing Taylor Guitars? We're a Taylor household and although we haven't kept up with his travels lately, have heard him enough to know that he's still got the 'gift'.

Someone else who is really good in his field is Doyle Dykes...he's more of a Bluegrass/Irish Folk type player, but can eat a guitar alive.

When I lived in San Diego, years ago, I went to see Joe Pass..now, he was awesome! My boy friend, at the time was a musician, and he took me...I remember him talking about Leo Kotte, but I have never seen him.
