Expanding our profile- Name & Camera

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

How about adding the following optional descriptions show up in our profile?
A. Real Name (prompted by http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/464894/ )
B. Camera Used (prompted by a question I see asked very often)

Pine City, MN(Zone 4a)

Good idea!

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Ditto!

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Me too!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I'd like that, too.

Hobart, IN(Zone 5a)

Me too!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I'd love to see camera info. Count me in!

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

Not to poo-poo on this idea at all (I don't care one way or another). What if people use more than one camera or lens? Isn't better to just ask folks what they are using.

LOL I'd be asking on half of the photos I see.

I'd rather see it on the member page. That way, it's there and doesn't need to be asked. The field could just be left open for people to type in whatever equipment they use.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I am always asking what camera different people have. Excellent idea!!

Posting on member page is fine, but at least allowing name on the posts would increase the "friendliness" of the site by allowing more personal responses. We see many of those by some of the members who have grown to know the real first names of some of the members. Hi Beatrice is much warmer than Hi Ignatz42.
Maybe an optional "signature" field that would show at the end of each post. In that way you could have anything you wanted - name, camera, saying, favorite flower, ....

Signatures are neat, but they can make threads really long since they're included on every post. There would need to be a line limit (now, where's Ulrich? He loves line limits, LOL!).

Modi'in, Israel

I think it's a great idea. If someone uses more than one camera, the one they use most often can be the one listed. Then, they can just type in their posts if they are using a different one than their standard for that particular photo or set of photos. I agree with GW though that it should be on the Member page and not a signature. Threads would get even more excessively long with signatures IMHO.

Not much on the signature idea....It could get pretty lengthly as far as posts go.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

It might be okay if you are posting a picture to have that information added about what camera is used, but to make it automatic at the end of every post would be a little too much. Just like in this thread where there are no pictures, it would be useless information taking up space if used as a signature. Why not type up the information you would like added at the end of a post and put it someplace convenient in your computer so you could just copy and past it into a post here.......it probably wouldn't be too hard to just type it in when needed. Name and camera type wouldn't be a big deal for me to type.

JMHO.

You're probably right Brugie...I'm make way more posts that don't have images attached.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

Maybe it could only be added if you attach a photo? LOL Just a little thing for Dave to program.

(I am hiding behind someone bigger than Terry who ducks and hides all the time cuz she is a self confessed tiny person)

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

I like Brugie's idea of tagging the post of a photo with the camera.
In terms of new code for the website, maybe Dave has learned the phrases I practiced, at least daily, when were totally remodeling a fixer upper house and my wife had new "suggestions"
Piece of cake. No problem. Nothing to it.
and the ever useful
Yes, Dear. Of course, Dear. Whatever you say, Dear.
Both became almost a mantra.

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

hmmmmm......I get "yes dear" a lot from DH.

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

Hi GW, heeeere's Ulrich!
I never did say there should be a limit (10 lines or less, ha ha) - but can you look at some of the posts in this here thread http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/468765/ and say with a straight face that, except for some necessary listings, it might not be a good idea after all? ROTFL
(Boy am I in for it now!)

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

LOL Max!!!!!!
