I need some advice please

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I posted this in the home decorating forum, but I really need some quick advice, and that forum may not be watched by the person who has the answer to my question. Please take a peek and tell me what to do. DH is going to freak when he gets home, and I'd love to be able to have the answer. Any and all suggestions will be most appreciated.

Thanks!

What about a quick cover up with a short wallpaper border?

Jen, I've thought about that also, and that may be what I end up doing if I really wreck the wall trying to get the calking off. (Which is what I'm leaning towards right now). I'd rather not put a border on the bottom though unless I have to.

Thanks.

Oooh, that's a good idea! Or you could do a row of decorative tiles, or "listels" (border tiles) like this embossed fruit or just about anything else you can imagine: http://www.flooringwebsite.com/Bathroom_Tile/Listels/Fruit_Listel_Series/Main_HTM.htm

They're very easy to install (you "butter" the back of them with mortar, snug them in place, clean off any mortar that's oozed out, then apply grout when the mortar has set up and dried - usually 12-24 hours later.

DH said it looks like they used the wrong chaulk. They should have used a paintable one.
He said really all you can do is use a putty knife to scrap off the old chaulk, use a paintable one (latex based, maybe) and then you will be able to paint over it.
Do you have a tall vase of flowers you could stick in front of it to buy a few days time, lol?
Hope that helps,
Jen

Thanks Terry, I like the tile idea better than a wallpaper border. But, putting anything there besides paint and maybe different caulking right now is not in the plan or budget. LOL I've marked that website though to look at later if I decide to do that.

I agree with your DH Jen, I think it was the wrong caulking. I'm in the process of trying to get it off the wall, but not break the seal between the backsplash and the wall. Tedious, so I'm taking a break.

DH still isn't home, but I've given up caring what he is going to say. I'll just tell him the worst thing that can happen is we will have to recaulk, but that is probably a good thing anyway.

Jen, I would need a really LONG plant to put in front of it. It goes the whole stretch of the countertop. I don't think there's any way to hide it at this point, so I might as well just fess up right away. :)

I'm going to keep working on this until it's done. I've already taken tomorrow off, and then it's the weekend, so I can get this done. I know I can.

Okay, back to work.

Thanks for all the help, and I'd still love to hear any other suggestions. I have no idea what I'm going to do next.

Well, the caulking is off the wall, and I painted that area. I think it will be okay. It needs at least two more coats of paint, but I've done all I can for tonight until the paint dries.

Thank you all SOOOO much for helping me out with suggestions and for being here with me through a panic attack. LOL

I do like the tile idea though. Maybe that's what I should ask DH for for Christmas.

Looks much better Joan! Good on ya'!

I actually like the mottled effect, people work real hard to get that, you know.
