100th Birthday....

Harford County, MD(Zone 6b)

My mother-in-law celebrated her 100th birthday on the 4th, and a party was held at the church hall yesterday. Her eyesight is very poor and her hearing not good either, but her mind is very sharp.
She seemed to really enjoy seeing all her family and friends. At first she didn't want a party (said, everyone thought it was a big deal, but to her it wasn't), then she gave in.

My 6 yr old grandson ( who doesn't see her often) really took an interest in her, and kept going up to her chair seemingly just to be near her. She said, " I think he likes me"

Yes indeed! And what an attractive centagenarian she is. She doesn't look a day over 80.

Happy Birthday to her! I hope I look that good at 80! LOL

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Oh, how wonderful it must be to have seen all that she has. I bet she could tell a lot of stories.

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

A true milestone....Happy Birthday to her!

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

How wonderful Ginlyn. And I concur, she is a pretty lady and does not look a day over 80. My grandmother was 86 when she was passed, but look 70. My mother is 76 and looks like she is around 65. I'm almost 50 and except for the grey hair, don't look it. It is a gift to look younger than one is. :) Big birthday hugs for your grandmother. Kathy

Thank you for your kind words.
I wish you could all know her for she is truly a wonderful and kind lady.
She has, over the years had foster children numbering in the 30's. Several, including my DH and his siblings were with her till they grew up and moved away. Her Husband died in 1943 of a heart attack and six days later her son died from a brain tumor.

It makes you wonder how one survives all of life's hardships. She must be a very strong person with a lot of faith. Were any of these foster children there for her celebration?

Harford County, MD(Zone 6b)

Yes, Misty.... there were quite a few. The ones she had the longest of course , have remained in touch with her. You're right in that she does have great strength and faith.

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Another testimony to faith...:) Wonderful they could be there. And how are you related to RR?

Mirpur (A.K), Pakistan(Zone 9b)

Happy birthday to your mother-in-law , nice to see her here.

Harford County, MD(Zone 6b)

Misty, RR and I are first cousins. Her mother was my father's sister.

Bel Air, MD(Zone 6a)

Ginny, I am sure everyone had a good time. That is a good photo of her.

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

So this is your DH's mother, for some reason I kept thinking she was your grandmother. I think we need to do a family tree for RR on DG because I think she is related to 40% of the members/subscribers. LOL

You are lucky to have such a good cousin and vice versa, I'm sure. :)

Just to clear this up a little...SgtDdot is Ginlyn's dear Sister...and my cousin also!! To clear it up farther...LizH is their Sis In Law....married to my cousin...and she is also my sister MaryK's Sister in Law!! Go figure that one out....LOL Jo

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Okay, I'm not confused anymore, yeah right.....and then there's Dufus and how is she doing? We think of her often....

So Lizh is married to Ginlyn's and SgtDdot's brother and they all happen to be your cousins. How is she MaryK's SIL. MaryK's DH must be Lizh's brother. ?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

That's not a family tree, that's a family web ;o)

Ginlyn, how wonderful for your mother-in-law and your family. She's just beautiful and I'm guessing she enjoyed the day much more than she even anticipated she would. Blessings to your whole family!

Well, I was going to put ' my two cent's worth' in about here, but the way it looks, you guys are confused enough.....Ginny, I am glad you all had the celebration of life for her and I can imagine how happy she was... Oh and I must add you didn't tell how handsome her sons are !!! LOL .Love you ,,cuz Mary

Crossville, TN

Misty...Yep...you guessed it...LizH is the sister of Maryk's DH...Dufus stays gone so much I can't keep up with her....I wonder where she got that from??? LOL Jo

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Wow, what a tangled web. Here's one for you. My brother married my SIL, then her father married my stepsister. When my nephew was born we said that his grandfather was also his stepuncle by marriage and my brother's FIL was also his step-BIL. It was too much to handle....

We joked and said that the song "I'm my own grandpa" was written for him. :)

Remember, my DH is sgtdot & ginlyn's brother. Oh, you said that didn't you Jo.
Gin, great day for your MIL

Edited to add, MaryK is really like my sister.

Boy, this thread ought to be linked to in the FAQ page. "Who all is Roadrunner related to?"!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

What a great photo! She's just beautiful. I have an ornary old Aunt that is approaching 103, and her face would make wallpaper peel! Ah, but being an ornary old gal is what keeps her going and what makes her interesting. Your mother-in-law has a sweet face.
