Snail Vine & Chocolate Vine

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

Does anybody want cuttings of these for postage? I can do about 5 trades on the chocolate vine and 10 on the snail vine.

Here's a link on the snail vine...

Here's one on the chocolate vine

EDITED TO ADD THE FOLLOWING:

I've gotten very good interest in these cutting. In order to avoid going insane and forgetting someone. I'm going to ask that you respond if interested here. I will post your name below with what you are asking for. Then I will send you and email with further instructions. If you don't see your name here and you don't get an email that means I'm out of cuttings or energy to ship anymore cuttings.

PLEASE BE WARNED! You might also get cuttings and or plants of other stuff I need to get rid. Which you can pass along if you want. I just don't have the room for them.

Flowerjunkie, You have mail. :))))))))))

central Arkansas, AR(Zone 7b)

I received my box of chocolate and snail vine cuttings today, flowerjunkie-thank you!! They look good and I have them soaking in glasses of water. I'm wondering if that would be the best way to root them or would moist potting soil be better? Any tips will be greatly appreciated-I've been trying to root cuttings of corkscrew and blue sky vine and am presently batting 0-sure hoping I do better with these.

Mary

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

mjtip,

I would go ahead and plant them in potting soil. The chocolate vine is hardy to zone 5 so once rooted you can put it right into your bed this winter.

Snail vine is not hardy in your zone. so I would wait until spring to put that out. Potting soil should work for the rooting process also.

Make sure in both case that you put two - three inches of stem under the soil to insure your strike rate.

central Arkansas, AR(Zone 7b)

OK, I'll pot those babies up tomorrow and cross my fingers that they will soon be growing roots. It is so nice of you to share cuttings of these expensive vines-you went to a lot of trouble and it is appreciated.

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

flowerjunkie

You have mail!:o)

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

ok so i am guessing 3.85 for postage or what was you needing? it is cold here do you think it would be a good idea to send them now since they arent rooted? plmk and thxs
moretz

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

moretz,

Oh sure it should be fine as long as the mail wonderful mail service doesn't leave it on someone elses door step for 7 days like they did your variegated lemon. Ever since you said that the lemon froze I have been packing as much newspaper around the plants I ship to ensure they don't freeze in case they go on extended joy ride. I even shipped stuff to NY just last week and the plant arrive in perfect condition.

You know my address. $3.85 cent stamp is more than enough. But please include a note telling me what you want.

Daisy

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

HI,
Is your snail vine Phaselous or Vigna caracalla. Some people use the term snail vine interchangeably.
Jan...

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

In the first post she provides a link to the Phaselous - and sure is a beaut. After reading your e-mail, I went into the pdb and saw the corkscrew plant... Bad, budgielover!!! (Now I gotta have THAT, too!) Oh, my! So many plants, so little space! lol! You guys are killing me - but what a way to go! ~:-)))

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

Its Snail Vine Vigna caracalla but its also called Phaseolus caracalla & Phaseolus gigantea. If you click on the link above you'll see the photo of the actual flower and vine that I am offering.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

I can hardly stand the wait - I swear, what kind of a moron would become addicted to flowers in NY in the FALL??? (Ok, that would be me!)

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

Poor Sequee,

I messed up, thought I was one day ahead on the calender. I just corrected it...please look above. But your box is going out today...NOW does that make you feel better?

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, ma'am!

The contractors are supposed to be finishing my new upstairs over the weekend, and they are building me a wall-to-wall 8" shelf under the windows on both dormers - Oh, boy! That gives me 10 more feet of window space! (And 10 more feet of plants to water - hmmmm!)

Thanks again - I stop hounding you and start handing the mail carrier!

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

Sequee,

That sounds exciting. You must post photos once you have all your babies resting on the shelf.

Cassopolis, MI(Zone 5a)

Well I am guessing I am too late for the generous offer that you have made, but I will take a chance and maybe just maybe get lucky??

If you have either or both I would love them.
Thanks so much for even considering it.
Alice

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Just keep your fingers crossed that "the boys" show up this weekend - this project was started in June!

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

aknapp

Sure,

You can get some. I'll send you an email.

Daisy

Cassopolis, MI(Zone 5a)

Daisy you are absolutely wonderful.

I am so excited!!! I don't even know how to thank you!!!

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

Flowerjunkie,
Please check the following link as there is a difference in the two plants. Even the seeds are very different, the vigna being about about 4-5 times the size of phaselous.
