When...

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Just out of curious.. wondering have any one of you set your chrismtas tree up already, later or not put one up this year? Today, I went and shopping... bought 9 feet tall fake christmas tree ( Sherwood Pine slim) and some decorates. Our ceiling is higher ( 13 feet) so I got us 9 feet tall. It will be our first christmas in our new house! I was confused.... should I put tree up now or later during THanksgiving week. Our family will come over here for Thanksgiving.

I would like to put early before Thanksgiving or early so I can have us family take pictures for xmas cards.

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

I will probably skip putting up a tree this year. Too much else going on to dig out the decorations. This also reduces the risk of Allie or Hobbs nibbling on the power cords.. zzzzzz...zzzzap!

crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

I'd say it just up to you Mini. I know some folks put theirs up after Halloween. I always buy a real tree so I'm limited to about 3 weeks. (but I am also guilty of leaving the poor thing till it dies afterward. Just once!)

Sweetie, if you want to put your Christmas tree for Thanksgiving then by all means do that. Can think of no reason not to do so. Will add to the festive look at Turkey Day too. I used to always put one up on the first day of December... started making chrismas cookies right about then too.

After all it's not as if it will dry up and drop needles. Think the fake trees are so much safer. So I can leave up as long as I want.

Paris, TX(Zone 8a)

I don't remember exactly when, but we put our tree up before Thanksgiving last year. I usually put it up after, but I really enjoyed it last year, so I may do it again.
I really love my tree. When I got married, I had a little 4 foot tree. We used that one for our first Christmas. We waited a few weeks after Christmas and got us a 7 and a half foot prelit tree for 75% off. I couldn't wait to put it up last year, so that's probably why we put it up before Thanksgiving.

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

got so many people living here and plants in house no room in the Inn .well i quess that a bit of chritmas story ?

A Christmas tree (or any holiday decorations for that matter) are kind of like painting your bathroom walls red. It certainly gets your attention and it is different.....at first. But it doesn't take long to tire of it and it eventually becomes downright annoying. The reason interior decorators use light, cool, and neutral colors for large and permanent spaces is because they have a calming effect and do not become an eyesore. I love decorating my house for Christmas but every year I have to remind myself not to do it too early. I generally don't put out any Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving and the tree even later than that. Otherwise, buy the time Christmas gets here I'm already tired of looking at it and I want my house back to normal.

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

We usually put our tree up the weekend after Thanksgiving. I bought a new fake tree last year. It was a lot bigger than I realized, so it blocks almost all of my two living room windows, which I don't like. I can't imagine not looking out at my flower beds, and right now I can't imagine them being almost all brown, so I'm not looking forward to the tree going up too soon. If we have some sudden cold weather and my beautiful flowers succumb to the cold, then I'll be glad for the parade of lights and Rudolph ornaments to block the sad view.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

We put ours up after Thanksgiving last year but this year I am all for having the tree done before so that the folks we have that Thursday and who cannot be here for Christmas will get to enjoy it.

Hey- I live in a neighborhood where the neighbors never take down their house lights and there is a reindeer permanantly living on the next door neighbor's roof! LOL

>>the neighbors never take down their house lights
Hey daisy! I didn't know you lived next door to Blooms!

Mini, I always figured the Christmas season started after Thanksgiving (like, the DAY AFTER), but you have a perfectly good reason to have the tree up before Thanksgiving Day -- Your first Christmas in your new house! Photos with the tree (the BIG TALL TREE!) will be so perfect for your holiday cards!

I always wondered how people had photos of themselves in front of the tree on their Christmas cards... now I know!

Never had the tree up on thanksgiving, however when we lived in the burbs we would have all the Christmas lights up on the house by then and on Thanksgiving night we would light the house up kinda like Chevy Chase! Gave the Neighbors somthin to Talk about! Another thing kids like is after Christmas is take down all the ornaments and leave the lights. We always had a new years party and we would blow up balloons and stick them in the tree on all branches. At midnight the kids would pop the balloons with a toothpick. Our kids are grown now and they still talk about the New Years Tree! Just do whatever you feel like and enjoy!!!

Wow! What a GREAT idea!!!!!!

Weedlady- gotta tell you- I used to live in Abilene and the last time we drove from DFW to Abilene to see my mom (in July), we stopped and looked at the windmills for sale in Weatherford. I dream of those windmills.

If I had one of those, I would have a Christmas tree 365 a year all lit up!!!

Weatherford, TX(Zone 7b)

Ya,girl down the road has one of those windmills and a wagon. Made the channell 8 news at Christmas.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

How do you think that would go down in downtown Long Beach? I bet they would love it!!!!

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

if your having family over I say PUT IT UP NOW, I am sure they would all enjoy, and it would make a lovely Christmas card picture

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

we cut down a fresh tree so we wait till its closer to christmas-we had one that rained down needles on christmas day-it was funny! Im going for a smaller tree this year. The utility bills will be higher-so less lights this yr!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

We don't go anywhere or have company for Thanksgiving because of family issues. We also used to spend every holiday running and running and never enjoyed them at all. I started a custom for us, of putting up and decorating the Christmas tree and house on Thanksgiving Day. We drag it up from the basement and do all the assembling and decorating in between making our meal. Then we all sit down together, talk about all the things that we are grateful for and then we enjoy a not so quiet evening at home. :)

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

If the issue is pictures for your cards, why not dress up and take the family down to the store where you bought the tree and stand in front of the display!

Pflugerville, TX(Zone 8b)

I thought of that too Weez...but I think she said it is the first Christmas in their house so I think they wanna show off the tree in the house on the cards.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Ah, well, maybe folks would think they live in a department store!

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Weez - you reminded me of my bro and SIL. They sent us a video one Christmas ... we're watching it and they're getting ready for work, in the bedroom, bathroom, the kitchen, etc. We're going like 'why did they send this to us, seems kinda weird' ... finally realized they'd filmed the whole thing in an Ikea store display area, like it was their house! They were in their jammies, brushing their teeth, doing their hair, what a hoot! They did kind of a 'Groundhog Day' movie thing, in each bathroom. LOL

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

That is a hilarious idea, kooger!!!! OMG I am gasping. May have to try that one.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Oh, how funny!

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

I probably won't do too much decorating in the house, will be at my youngest sons home for Christmas, and at my daughters for Thanksgiving. I do plan to put up some outside decorations and will probably do that before or shortly after T. as it gets pretty cold here so much nicer to decorate before the weather turns terribly cold. Donna

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

We always decorate around Thanksgiving, and every year my hubby tells me he is not putting lights outside but always ends up going all out and I do the tree. I just am hoping there is a few descent days and not to cold, last night was our first frost but it warmed up some during the day and I was able to get all my plants in before...
Now it's figuring out where to put the tree for all my little pots I had to bring in and one big Yucca...
