These are lovely flowering bulbs producing something looking similar to Frittillaria. I had never heard of them but clicked the link and read about them. All I can remember on the post is Darius said they were not for her zone. Well anyway, I saw them at Lowe's yesterday and would be glad to get them for whomever asked, maybe even some for me. LOL I cannot remember the darn name though so the search won't work for me. Sigh. Blonditis.......
Who was looking for a bulb called Necro something ?
Nectaroscordum, maybe? http://davesgarden.com/pdb/go/1832/index.html
I bought some at Lowe's this year, and I can never quite wrap my tongue around the name, either ;o)
That is it! Thank you. I had necro in my mind and silicum instead of siculum. Guess that explains why I I couldn't find it. LOL
Wow, those are very pretty and unusual! My first thought was "I have to get some of those," but then I remembered I have NO MORE ROOM!!
oh, they're tiny - don't take up much room at all. Surely you could spare a few inches for these pretty flowers! (snicker....like any of us needs encouragement to squeeze in just one more plant!)
Terry, you are BBBad!! LOL
I lost my mind sometime in in the spring and have ordered enough stuff to share with my whole neighborhood!!
Terrie
Before you make up your mind either way, 20 grape sized bulbs were $10!!
Whoa!!
Jackpot! My grocery store was charging like $4 for 2 bulbs. Today I noticed a cart of clearance and they were in there! hehehehe Price was .75 for the 2 bulb pack. :) I also got 10 packs of Queen of the Night tulips, Yokohama tulips and Davota tulips for .75 too. Yippee! I could have gotten them cheaper if my favorite florist friend was there. I always tell her what is or is not the proper planting time for things and if it is not the right time or things are done blooming, she marks them down for me. LOL
The Nectaroscordum are really neat flowers, they have diamond shaped leaves and they really don't take up much space, at least here they don't. I haven't noticed that they done any offsetting and apparently we never get warm enough for the garlicky smell to be a problem. The stems are quite sturdy and the flowers are really neat. When they are gone, they're gone, I pull the dead stems out and that's that. Mine grow in the middle of my lavender - maybe that's why I never smelled the garlic! - and they don't seem to mind.
Don't you just love the late bulb sales? Not that I didn't buy 300 or so when they were full price, but who can walk away from 50 crocus bulbs for 2 bucks or whatever? I'm not an addict - I can put them down and walk away, truly. That's what I'll do next time I'm out. I'll pick up 2 packages of sale bulbs, put one down and walk away.
Badseed, sounds like you scored BIG in spring bulbs! You can brag all you want, but expect to see pics come spring.
LOL I sent my hubby to get the rest of them today and there was nothing left but one pack of the black tulips and one pack of the yellow. I hope I like them. :)
