I was deadheading some Zinnia today and found this strange looking one, looks like all little pods. picture 2 shows another one with what looks like a flower head, but it too is a lot of tiny buds pressed together

I think this is a disease caused by insects carrying a virus from plant to plant. I had a similar purple coneflower and that is what someone told me. Now I can't remember the name of th virus.
You can remove the piece that is affected. I also had healthy flowers along side these.
Thanks,that is the only one I had, and just about all of them have finished for the year, so I will clean up the flower bed for next year.
