More Seed Snatchin' (Part II)
So who's going first, I haven't done my first "snatch" yet, so some other person will have to send us on our way with a chuckle!!
Judy
Dave's got a garden known by many
They grow fruits and nuts... of nuts there's plenty
When you start a new thread,
They know what to do
They Skip to the New, my Darlin'!

Sorry, you just got me singing. LOL
Well, darnit I don't have much of a chuckle. I was out at my favorite place to pick seeds last week, bending over and someone honked and hollered at me. It really is not the best place - part of the bed faces the service road of a busy 6 lane freeway. I am sure there are many people that have driven by wondering what the heck I am doing.

Gosh, I forgot which thread I was on...well, skip to the New anyway! I never wear white pants when I steal seeds.. not because I'll get them dirty, but because someone will always shout a comment about showin' movies on my behind!

Hey, Christmas is coming soon. Maybe we should put a hint to the hubbies to get us those nifty headlamps that they sell in the sports stores... both hands free to pillage!
Won't you be up to your ears in snow by then Weezingreens?
I'm sure Weezins' will be - but she'll by gollee be armed and well prepared come Spring !
Brrr!!!!
Hey Weezingreens, don't know why I haven't told you this before! Right before I went on my one and only trip to AK I took in an abandoned puppy. Well, Alaska left such an impression when I came home and named her Kenai! She's 5 yrs. old now. I figured Ninilchik would be a little cumbersome to use when calling her. LOL Ninilchik, bad dog!! :-)
Here's a pic of my sweet Kenai. She's the one in the back - sorry but my Rottie is a camera hog!!
She's my little seedling smashing wonder!!
Nicole
glad to see this tread continuing, I have been sick for a few days and every time i miss work it falls apart..And all I kept doing is looking at my flowers and plants to see what I can get and needed to be in bed...terrible addiction I have and I have to start watching the road instead of the scenery to see what is growing or ready to seed..hehehe... or I am going to crash...
You all have addicted me is there a rehab group I can join!!!!!
Thanks for the laughs
Vickie
Hey, NC, what a couple of cuties! If you'd traveled some of the more remote areas, the names would have been even stranger! How about Kwethuk or Tatitlik? Actually there is a town named Chicken... they wanted to call it Ptarmigan after our state bird, but nobody could spell it! LOL! (Truth)
Vickie, I've never been able to decide if I need rehab for this addiction, or if DG is the cure for all my other ails!
Magpye, I'm always looking toward spring, but I've been known to wade through snow to snatch seed heads and rose hips after the winter has arrived... talk about stratifying the seeds! I stratify the seed snatcher, too!
.. LOL ..
Yep .. I'd certainly bleeve it, Weez!!
Good thing ya don't go 'dormant' yaseff .. 'ey?!? .. LOL
- Magpye
gee I never thought about it that way but I think you are right...hahaha
GREAT Picture!!!!
Bet you wouldn't be saying that if you were out on the porch with me, Judy! LOL!
Ok, remember California person here. Gray, too. Weez, what IS That stuff all over your yard? That white stuff? Yeah, that stuff. What IS it??? I can NOT imagine. Nope.
I heard there was a rehab group forming, and thought it was a perfect idea. The only problem, the forum is here, in Dave's Garden!! It's like the computer addicts rehab group - it's ON LINE.

Newest hobby "'Dumpster Diving "

Tazzy - you go girl!!!
Ha ha! Tazzy!!
Weezingreens! Wow! Not me!!!! If I come back there it will be in July!! LOL! Those sure DO look like sandals Magpye!!!! No wonder people are honking at you Weezingreens- people are thinking get inside and put some boots on !! LOL
hmmm chicken for a dog's name - kind of funny!
Hey Weez, do you have snow like that now?
Seriously worried about Tazzy now. Has anyone ever tried to dissect a gift floral arrangement for seeds? I thought I was getting a bit weird there but had two of them sprout. I have NO idea what they are but....lolol!!
I saved some seeds from a Sunflower I received at the hospital when my son was born.. Kinda sentimental sunflower!!!
WZ - I'm so proud of you! Corrupting, I mean Instructing the youngsters on the finer points of of seed liberating! So, on my hunting trip up on the Denali Hiway, at Tangle Lake Lodge I saw the viola annuals wasting their seed. I preserved that dna line, dang it! Having a breast removed and in the lobby of the Hospital I saw a nice Sanseveria pup I rescued along with a variegated Ivy that had mysteriously been severed. They're safe now thanks to another kleptobotanic. "My name is Carol, and I'm a Klepto..." "Hi Carol, welcome to KA." (Not so anonymous any more) Rose petals falling to the ground and rotting, I'm making rosary beads, saved Tamarack, Larch cones (started seedlings but they disappeared (have to start another flat), seeds from my grafted apple tree (grow them up big enough for grafting scions and attatch them to swiped crabapple rootstock [saved 3 suckers from my first grafting success]), see wz heading to town, (time to tour her yard with envelopes), read her email about visiting my yard, (sooooo proud of her!!!!) Weez, please borrow my seed collection in the stacked rolling drawers and distribute my ill-gotten gains! I love this thread...
the other Carol
WOW other Carol!! You are one busy woman!!!
NC Don't you have the only Myrtle Tree area on the East coast in your state? On the West coast is one in Oregon.
uhhhh..... yes?? Not sure.....
Ummm Maybe called "Myrtle Beach"?
HAHAHA!! We have Myrtle Beach but scuse my ignorance I didn't know the name had to do with trees!!! LOL I guess I need to pay attention next time I am there! It's very commerical so you see more hotels than anything!
Nicole
Nicole, maybe you could see if the nuts from Myrtle trees are available?
Carol
Sure! It's about 3 hours from me but I do have a friend that lives there.. Only bad thing is she is NOT a gardener and who knows what we would end up with.... You don't happen to have a pic do you?
Nope, I only have memories of my visit in '92 to Oregon. Stopped by a myrtlewood craftstore and picked up a rolling pin, toothpick holder and Myrtlewood cologne (heavenly!) I saw they had nuts for sale to propagate, but wasn't the seedoholic then that I am now. (I've been all through the seed swiping thread the last hour!)
Carol
Hee hee! Here am am at work perusing the plant trading/seed trading forums while I have 4 plants in my sink and a ga zillion bulbs in my fridge waiting on me!! This is truly an addiction!!! I may have more time for it though if I don't get myself fired! lol - not really lol though...
I will see what I can do on the Myrtle! Maybe she can shop stores so she won't have to pick potential errors from say... Crape Myrtles ! LOL
Crape Myrtle! That would be a "Whoops", I'm thinking I could baby a Myrtle Tree along here in Seward, I have microclimates arount the yard ranging from zone 7 down to zone 3-2 and colder. Please don't have her buy ones, the point is to harvest seed/nut from the tree (free)
Aren't the seed swiping threads a hoot?
Carol
Yep! I have really enjoyed this thread! Ok - but I will still see what I can find out about the Myrtle!!
Addict, I have the entire bouquet from both my last two children's birth hospital stay pressed and framed for them. And the ribbons. We are bad.
I collect fabric, among many other things. A girlfriend's hubby asked her why don't you use some, she turned and said in her best insulted voice, "It's a collection, you don't USE them!" Thank goodness seedoholics have to use the seeds or lose em.
Gosh, I love this thread!
NC, if you ask your friends about the nuts in Myrtle Beach, she may send you a scandal sheet, not seeds! LOL! And, yes, everybody, those are sandals... that's why I'm gripping the railing... pretty slippery. It's more work for a fat lady to take her boots on and off than it is to let her socks dry! LOL!
Carol, when I first read one of your posts here, I thought it said you had one of your breasts removed in the lobby! LOL! I know you are a tough ol' gal, but that would be darn right crazy! Anyway, it occurred to me that you could make a special prosthesis with a compartment to hide your seed stealings and plant cuttings... you could even carry a pair of snippers in there!
Hey, Carol, maybe we should start a stolen seed garden. We could have a special section for Alaska Lodge seeds... your violas from Tangle Lake, and I could add my delphinium seeds from Sheep Creek Lodge. Almost got some Campanula glomerata seeds from the Windsong Lodge here in Seward, but the dirty scoundrels dead headed them!
Gosh, I love the dumpster possibilities! Good going, Tazzy! I hope you're a tall gal. I once got stuck feet up in our chest freezer trying to clean it... the cops could cuff your ankles and haul you away!
