I am curious, I have one child that enjoys growing things. She is a teenager. She goes with me to the club meetings, botantical trips, ect.
I was just wondering if we had any on Dave's or if you have a child that is interested in horticulture.
Thanks

Young gardeners, are you under 21?
bluegrass, as far as I know we have two (very fine) young men in Finland, Evert and Mitjo, both 17.
Would be great to add more 'young blood' to our site!
My 10 year old daughter's interest comes and goes. She really likes going to the swaps and the arboretum with me and will ask what stuff is. She enjoys learning stuff if she is outside with me while I am working and ask her to help. She respects nature and even gets excited when seeing spiders and snakes. Most of the time she has plenty of other things to do though. LOL
DD is waiting for her 13th b'day so that she can join Dave's. She is my mud-monkey. Flowers are ok but vegetables are better.
I'm 19, I've been gardening since the begining of HS. But I guess 19 isn't really a child. Oh, I'm so old!
CaptMicha I thought you were an older man!
Pleasssseeee...I wish! I have 5 children. They run from the word Garden. Boy I wish one of them showed some interest. My oldest daughter...16. She says, "I hate weather, I hate dirt, I hate bugs and creatures". Yet I caught her trying to pick some of my double rudbeckias. I think they like to see the gardens...And that's it! I often want them to help me gather seeds...But there has to be money involved :-/ Shame!
An older man? Gee... thanks!
My 6yo son loves to help me when ever I am doing anything with my plants and flowers. He even has his own gloves and kneeling pad. He keeps asking when I am going to let him have his own flowerbed. I let him have his own flowerpot on the front porch this year, but I ended up watering it every day. Maybe I'll surprise him next spring and let him have a go at a patch of ground. My 4yo son just likes to throw dirt at his brother, kill slugs, and play with worms!
CaptMicha is also female.
mgh - I'll take the slug killer! but he can't have my worms...
I LOVE that baby!
I think I win for birthing the most young female gardeners though. :)
Ahhh, gumlla .. My, My! .. Your son is indeed growing like a lil weed himself!!
And surely, you're one proud pop too !!
I'd seen other pics of him elsewhere .. but haven't seen any lately.
Mitey glad you posted it here .. Handsome lil sport he is too! ..
And already a lil 'camera ham' also! .. hee hee

He's so adorable. I wanna pinch those chubby cheeks!
I'm 21, just barely fit in your question! I wish I had found gardening earlier but am excited to have so much of my life to continue with it.
My friends all think I'm crazy, fitting plants into every inch of sunlight I can - I think I have much more in common with DGers :)
art_n_garden,
Awww, let 'em think you're crazy!!! There's lots of plants that love shade too!!! heeheehee! :-)
My babies are teenagers today! 13 Brett and Bethany, they only tolerate gardening. Brett is a big help with the heavy manual stuff. They like the nice blooms and do have their favorites though.

Thank you so much.

It means your babies will be good gardener in the future.
It's really important that we try to include our children in our gardening activities. That way, hopefully, they'll grow up to appreciate nature and all it has to offer.
I'm 13,and I love to garden.I've been gardening since I was seven.I love DG,everyone here is so nice.
Howd'do there .. brandnewgirl133 ..
And, a most 'hearty' welcome .. to one 'gem' dandy of a gardening site !!
(hee).. try to steer clear of the seed 'snatchin' thread here on DG.com ... fer it's where the biggest batch of seed and plant nabbin' and pickin' is plenty talked and raved about! If'n ya haint mitey good nuff careful .. they'll surely snag you in, too, I tell ya. No doubt, it's an epidemic theyz started ... hee hee ...
hee hee .. Nah, I'm only teasin' you a lil bit ..
... Enjoy !!! ...

BrandNewGirl133 welcome
Good news, we have one more very young gardener in Dave's, Please share your gardening experience with us.
CaptMicha
When you have changed your sex? lol
What!!!?
Now this haint no authoritative endeavor I'mma tryin' to undertake here ... but, CaptMicha .. I think that perhaps gumlla jes may be referrin' to that thar preceeding word on your name: the 'Capt' part of it?!? .. Now I haint sure not nary a bit .. but, I do bet that it's only in 'jest' (hee), a pickin' atcha a wee bit.
I've been fishing about and lurkin' here there and yonder .. and I've yet to see gumlla 'say' any unkind or offensive 'risking' anything, to anyone here ...
- Magpye
Welcome brandnewgirl!
Oh I know. Gumlla is one of the nicest people out there! Any person who saves and raises a litter of kittens can't possibly be mean.
Ok .. captmicha ..
And, yep, I'd have to agree !!!
.. hee
CaptMicha
I was kidding because some one called you man in above threads, so I was laughing on that lines, I want to share it with you but in different way. Dont worry I know you are female I saw you nice picture in an other thread.
Has anyone seen (heard from) Paul lately? (Paul-something... West?) He's another youngish up and comer... and great photographer...

According to his member page he posted pictures to the PDB just today....so he's out there somewhere. :-)
I was very impressed with Paul's knowledge. He is one smart kid!
I just wrote to him today. The more pics that guy posts, the more I want to buy all those roses!
Hi, I just saw this thread. I didn’t realize until now that there are as many young people like me as there are on DG, I’m glad to know that I’m not alone!
Yes, I am still around although I haven't been able to spend as much time here as in the summer. I really do appreciate this site, and all the people on it a lot, it’s given me a chance to learn apart from just my Mom and the books that I can find at the library (not that those aren't great ways to learn!).
Not all the PDB photos I’ve posted are ones that I took, but I do enjoy taking pictures around the garden, and sharing them with my fellow members! Thanks for the kind words and for how much you DGers have taught me.
-Paul-
Paul, I love you photos! I think I could be learning from you, keep up the good work.
