Why So Slow

(Zone 5a)

When I click on a thread that I am watching or try to open anyone of the forums it take three minutes for it to open.

Hmmm. I don't know - it's working at normal speed here this morning. My guess is that the problem was about the time the system is doing its nightly update/refreshing.

I am on high speed and on a long thread it is well over a minute to load the thread.

Its been going on for acouple days but until I saw the note thought it was my machine, which is still possible.

I haven't noticed it anywhere but here though.

I also am on high speed (Road Runner) and it doesn't happen anywhere else? It's been happening to me for over a week and it doesn't matter what time of day or night I visit the site.I tried again this morning around 2 AM and I finally just gave up. It seems to be working fine now.....thanks.

If you haven't cleared your cache and rebooted in a while, it might be time to do that. I often find I have a lot of cookies that are clogging up the "arteries"..clearing the cache and getting rid of those pesky cookies (except for the DG one ;o) seems to help the speed.

I'm back on snail speed. I have done that and also ran scan disc to speed up the programs that I use most often,I don't understand it was working fine earlier?

Cassopolis, MI(Zone 5a)

I have done all of those plus a defrag and its better today than yesterday and last night it was normal when I was on for a few minutes.

Maybe just because so many people are on first thing in the morning??????

Yes, I have noticed the slowness, too. I, too, use a cable connection (Road Runner) and once the system slows down, I stay off of DG until the next day.

I have noticed the slowness more in the evening when there are probably more people using the site. During the day, I have not noticed any system slowdown, but at night it's terrible. And the slowness problem is just here at DG; other sites are just fine. (I thought it might be Road Runner that was slow).

I go to "tools" and "Internet options" and clear my "history" and the "temporary Internet files" on a daily basis. I also use programs that manage the cookies, ads, and all of the other "junk" that Internet sites want to load on your computer.

Maybe there are just too many users on the site and the bandwidth is being taxed?

I have not had any problem with slowness. The website comes through very well.

Guys & Gals - Plz remember that there have been major storms (hurricanes) lately and that these can fflect many routes of the internet. while your aol connection may not have been affected other servers & routers may have been, give the is/it people time to repair plz.

p.s. who knows what route this data is takeing? ( i have a prog that shows all the hops but not the locations).

I agree it is very SLOW at times. If Dave doesn't know there is a problem it won't get fixed!!

Therefore I say, if you find it slow post away, until Terry tells us all to stop!!

Today and last night, my computer has been very slow, too. I hope they get it fixed when they can.

" p.s. who knows what route this data is takeing? ( i have a prog that shows all the hops but not the locations)"

The trace of the route for each ping is different. Not only for the the same endpoints (i.e. your computer and a target internet server) at different times, but for different endpoints at the same time.

Some ISPs (most notoriously AOL and more recently Road Runner and SBC) provide a micro net for their users. As long as you stay within their micro net, speed is usually pretty fast, but once you leave it, it could also be a bandwidth problem of your ISPs connectivity to the larger public Internet. Also remember than Road Runner is a cable service, so bandwidth for cable TV can also impact speed. Increased viewing with the national elections a week away, and new fall programming could also be the problem.

I have a DSL connection through SWBelll (which is really SBC) and I have not experience any slowdowns (Dave's or elsewhere) during the period of these posts. However, I have experienced them when there have been issues with their Yahoo micro net.
