If peeps are serious about having a RoundUp there has also been a request that we start a thread. Are we going to go ahead......how many are interested?
Canadian RoundUp
Definitely interested, although having suggested end of February I have to admit that in 05 I will be in Cayman from the 25th to the 9th of March. It's a tough job but somebody has to do it.
lololol
edited to say I'll reserve this spot until I see the interest.

I'd be interested, but it should be somewhere that is receiving seat sales. It'd sure make it easier to afford it. Unless we all go to the Caymons!
Linda in Victoria BC
Sure, I am interested too. Makes it tough though when we have so much country to cover. But I'd sure love to meet and trade with everbody.
Donna
Lilypon,I think this is great..to meet everyone!!! Where was it that you had in mind?I need time to schedule. Please let me know.
Thanks, Ingrid
Up to everyone who posts......I'm open to any direction. Just want to chose a time and place that has greenhouses loaded. People may even want to chose a year from now...that way everyone has time to save money, multiply plants, plot and plan.

I would say that it would have to be the Island, or at the very least, Vancouver then as they would have a better chance of having loaded greenhouses in Febraury. And it should be say early or mid month so Lynn can be there too.
Or we could go for fall 05 when they still have stuff and we won't bring too much back because we'd have to winter it all. LOL
That works for me too. :)
I vote Van Isle!........E............will be in the UK and Ireland, at the end of Aug and into Sept.
When in February?
Thanks brugcrazy! So what date, after the 9th of March, looks good?
Cannot believe this. Think March is too cold for camping at Goldstream though. Maybe this will give me the incentive to STOP SMOKING. Anybody else want to join in?? If we put $$ into box instead of buying cigs, will have enough to travel for sure. Won't worry about the lbs or kgs though. vbg Wonder if I could haul Echoes with me as well.
Inanda - who spent c o l d afternoon planting extra lilium bulbs in Echoes gluey wet- sodden gumbo like field this week.
Camping in Goldstream park might be a bit cool as it's a provincial park and they have no electricity. There are other campgrounds with electricity. Is this going to happen in Victoria? Sounds like fun. I'll pick up Liz at the ferry in Nanaimo and she can camp with me and Oscar in the Westfalia. I bet she''ll love that. LOL
Maybe we better change this to a DG/VW RU . I'll be in a 71 VW Bus called Zanderbus. What is yours called Brugcrazy?
Inanda - who didn't know Goldstream was sans electricity.
Ginny, I didn't realize you were just as big a goof ball as Pam! LOL. I went through that quit smoking thing last May. That's it for me! To heck with the few extra lbs, it's worth it. I think that camping idea would be fun except I'd probably be a might bit uncomfortable in a 01 Mustang. No RV's for me, unfortuantely. I'd have to find a cheap motel nearby. I definately wouldn't miss the campfires though. :D

LOL Your photo's of your "dream machines" are just too cool. They look like they are a lot of fun and have many great stories and experiences under their fan belts. :D
oh my had no idea there were all those refugees from the 60's out there. Hate to be party pooper but my idea of camping involves a 5 star dining room and definitely hot showers other than that i don't tend to care where i sleep
Having second thoughts??? Come on Lynn it'll be like girl guides again.....and you can always sneak away to visit your restaurant!!

March might be cool for camping unless you have a heater. IF it's decided that the RU will be here, I'd be game to have billets (I'm sure my partner would agree, once I ask her) If her kids aren't staying with us at the time, we have 2 others beds, and 2 hide a beds. Also have 2 out door plugs for hydro. My cooking is fine, but I don't make coffee! Too many complaints and I don't drink it myself, so I draw the line. You want coffee, make it yerself! But we do have coffee makers, and lots of tea.
It sounds like there might be enough interest to have this.
If have a vote, for where to have this, and if Victoria is on the list, I won't vote for here, as I think not having to travel and spend money to get there, is perks enough. (hopefully you can get what I mean, think I should wake up before I get typing...)
Linda
Very tempting Linda! I have yet to post (find) a picture of our Black Betty (our old car....but it has a hitch) and our light weight Coleman trailer. The mountains of Yellowstone almost did Black Betty in (and we went in the less elevated way). Imma positive the Rockies would finish her off.......we are thinking of flying (or renting something with a little more guts).
Linda, your post makes perfect sense to me.
Wherever & whenever it is, I'm in! Thanks goodness for WestJet. I'll bring my tent. :-)
Ingrid, if we're flying at the same time & you wanted to leave your car in our garage, my DH can drop us off at the airport. Ok, I know it's early to get into the logistics...but I'm excited!
Shannon
Hey Pam are you going to bring everyone or is the "we" some of your plants. I have a largish van and would "car pool" for anyone who can come as far as Edmonton. (hint hint Hanna and east of Calgary). I think Victoria sounds like a consensus. Start saving points/air miles whatever easterners - If we buy enough seeds this winter might have enough points for everyone to fly LOL
Oh.... Plants. Oh help. Mine will still be frozen in March. Better dig them up now and put in fridge. (Mine are all lilies). So.... this is a swop meet as well. Glad this was mentioned BEFORE total freeze up in MB. No Sungod or Night Flyer however. Maybe a few Louisiana iris, depending on how they grow under lights this winter.
Thanks for the warning.
Inanda
OK some additional logistics and personal preferences.
For those flying on airmiles high season is in effect until the first of April and my wee bit of scottish blood insists that no more miles be used than necessary
I do have to put in at least a week or so drudgery catching up after the sunny vacation before I sneak away again
Easter is the 27th of March this year which kind of takes care of that week and we should do our best to avoid spring break times from schools etc in BC for access to accommodation and in general for flights
Since April 1 is a Friday we could have the first ever DG Canadian Fools Roundup and have that as our takeoff day (I can see the Tshirts now)
For anyone who would have difficulty coming due to the cost of flights I would be willing to pool some of my air miles (I have tons of them). For example westjet ottawa to victoria from April 1 to is only 1400 airmiles
Could we have an early indication of how many might be in?? How long should we plan for? return on Tuesay or so??
I'm in! Tuesday return sounds great!
I'm in too! Thanks for the offer, Lynn - it's very generous of you! I didn't realize it was only 1400 air miles....I should be ok for flight costs but there may be others in this neck of the woods who could take you up on it. Count me in.
Shannon
I can't find a calender, (hopeless, I know) If you all arrive on the 1st, and leave tuesday, how many days is that? I don't have any air miles points, but am offering lodging. I'm sure we can find a good place to eat, or 3 or 10 LOL.
Butchart Gradens should be in full bloom by then, and there's the hortocultural centre of the pacific here as well. They are plant sitting all the tropicals from the Crystal Gardens when it closed. I'm trying to think what else is going on in April here. There's alwasy the museum. Currently showing the Egypt ex. from the London England museum. Reminds me, I better get there before it leaves the end of the month...
I've got friends over, helping me enclose the deck this morning. They are off to [deleted] tire getting the 'right' screws etc. and their Tim Horton coffee. They didn't like what I bought... oh well, they brought fresh cinnimon buns. Should be a fun morning., afternoon now I guess.
*We* if it meant driving......*me* if I catch a plane or go with you Lynn (thank you for the wonderful offers to all us peeps Linda and Lynn). Gotta to get back to work but will be studying the airmiles site (both to Edmonton and Victoria) this evening!
I have a friend at Brentwood Bay, and I could stay there....so we gotta pick a time....E
I like the Lynn's idea of Friday, April 1, to Tuesday, April 5.
Public school vacation dates are March 18 - 29th in Victoria - longer for the independent schools. Haven't been to WESTJET yet to see what the space/cost is like. What happened to the Crystal Gardens? Butterflies? Campbell shut it??? What will be done with it?
I'm def. in. Sounds like tons of fun. Last time I did something like this was to go on a jaunt to Ontario - RBG - met 7 internet friends on Westjet (try trying to find strangers on a plane), rented a HUGE SUV or something and visited a ton of lily and iris folk.
Things to do. Amongst other things, see if there is a Hort Society meeting while we are visiting.
Inanda
I've never cashed in Airmiles for a flight.......are the miles quoted return or just one way? Do you have to pay cash on top for fuel tax, security, etc?
Pam, I've flown once using airmiles - it was super easy. Just like booking any other flight on the phone. Numbers of miles quoted are generally for return fares, and you can use either AC or WestJet. Taxes & fees are extra....on my flight fm Ottawa to Saskatoon & back, the flight was "free" with airmiles but I had to pay approx. $160 in taxes & fees, just to give you a general idea.
right now if you are a gold west jet airmiles collector their miles are half what air canada flights are and yes all taxes and departure fees and stuff have to be paid. downside is there is no change allowed once you book. must stay a saturday night. but domestically I think we could book end of february without too much difficulty.
hey and if you have a kitchen MG99 count me in for shopping and cooking one night (like you though it doesn't include coffee - can't stand the stuff so never learned to make it)
How common are snow storms in the Mountains end of March/beg of April? Still weighing straight flight out vs. going to Edmonton and then driving.
Thanks for the information.......I had a feeling everything wasn't covered.
