Question about copying and pasting

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

Dave,

When I send Welcome letters to new subscribers, I copy the text from previous messages and paste it into a new email. What was pointed out to me, though, is that the link I put in the middle of the message doesn't hyperlink after it is sent the first time. It just looks like text and cannot be clicked on thereafter. Is there something that I'm doing wrong?

Carla, it's the way the hyperlinks display. Your best bet is to create a message that contains the hyperlink (in full) and then copy and paste that message over and over, rather than from one message to another...

The other option is to open up (as though to edit) your previous message, and copy the text from there.

I'm going to keep a text file with links I commonly post and/or e-mail to people. That way, they'll all be as handy as a shortcut to the file. Maybe that would work for your purposes, too, Carla?

The other thing that Dave would most likely do for you is to give you a modifiable message you could use to send out your welcome letters. You could do as little as add the person's name or completely change the text, as needed.

It's how we handle the helpdesks - we have a repertoire of responses to the most commonly-asked questions, each of which is completely customizable. I usually add/modify mine a bit, but if I'm in a hurry or the answer is completely sufficient as-is, I slap their name at the top and my name at the bottom and call it "done".

He offered to send the message out to new subscribers for me. It would just "happen" automatically as they became members and I wasn't sure if that was a good idea as I liked adding personal touches, especially if I'd lived in or traveled in the new member's part of the country. I suppose I could always add a note later with a "Hey, I just noticed you are from ___." It would certainly be an easy fix, albeit not as personal somehow. I know I just copy and paste them, but it seems to be more personal when I'm the one doing the work. On the other hand, I'm all for time savers. Hmmmmm. What to do. What to do.

Ask him if he can somehow "build" you a changeable message you can use to send out by filling in the recipient's name. You know Dave - he can work miracles ;o)
